Job summary

The Lead Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) oversees maintenance, repair, calibration, and lifecycle management of medical equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation and regulatory compliance. This role partners with clinical teams to minimize downtime and improve patient care through proactive planning and a strong preventive maintenance program.

Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, Electronics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in biomedical equipment maintenance and repair.
• Certification as a Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of medical equipment, electrical safety, and troubleshooting techniques.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and equipment specifications.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, testing instruments, and CMMS software.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and calibration of biomedical equipment in accordance with OEM specifications, departmental procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct equipment inspections, electrical safety testing, and performance verification to ensure devices are safe, reliable, and ready for patient use.
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation of service activities, repairs, parts usage, and inventory within the CMMS; ensure data integrity that supports compliance and operational reporting.
• Support acquisition, installation, acceptance testing, and integration of new medical devices, ensuring proper configuration and user readiness.
• Collaborate with clinical, administrative, and operations teams to identify equipment issues, prioritize repairs, and provide guidance on safe and effective device use.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, including The Joint Commission (TJC), NFPA 99, OSHA, CMS, and FDA requirements.
• Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, and warranty claims, ensuring timely resolution of service needs and cost-effective support.
• Stay current on emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices, applying new knowledge to improve equipment reliability and program performance.
