Job Summary:

Lead Backend Engineer

Location: Remote, United Kingdom

Contract Terms: Permanent

THE JOB

In the role of Lead Engineer, you will join the TM1 Events team, focusing on delivering an application that empowers our clients to create and manage their events for the Ticketmaster website and various integrations. Your mission will be to leverage your technical leadership to integrate various technologies and deliver a robust set of APIs with the goal of transforming TM1 Events into the true master of event data at Ticketmaster. You will have to rely on your wide range of experience to solve complex problems, and you will have to mentor engineers in your team. You will work with a large variety of technologies and will be part of a fully DevOps & Agile team responsible for the full end-to-end delivery of web applications / microservices, including the infrastructure and production operation.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  1. Design and implement robust, reliable, highly available, and scalable APIs with solid monitoring and alerting capabilities
  2. Conceive, plan and implement innovative approaches to solve complex and multi-dimensional problems of diverse scope
  3. Create formal networks with key decision makers and serve as a spokesperson for the team.
  4. Lead the technical vision and implement the necessary technical frameworks and libraries that simplify the day-to-day features implementation. This also involves being accountable for the technical solutions.
  5. Continuously optimize services on all layers (infrastructure, platform, software) for high availability, high reliability, and high performance
  6. Interact with Product / UX designers and propose the right solutions to implement
  7. Collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership to build new features within strategic product roadmap
  8. Define technical specifications and technical acceptance criteria for the development team to meet the business requirements
  9. Monitor all critical services, troubleshoot, and address problems as they arise (including any needed changes in code, topology, resources, or configuration)
  10. Ensure high quality in all levels (code quality, bug free deployments, automated tests)
  11. Define meticulously the platform SLAs through load testing, chaos testing, and disaster recovery process
  12. Solve technical problems of the highest scope, complexity and ambiguity. This includes ensuring high quality through automated tests. This also involves providing a point of escalation for teams facing complex technical challenges.
  13. Be part of pager duty rotation
  14. Proactively identify opportunities to reuse or generalize existing product features. Avoid duplication of effort by encouraging collaboration. This involves ensuring the right balance between standardization, innovation, quality, and technical debt reduction, to be able to deliver the business value fast
  15. Teach, mentor, grow and provide advice to other software developers and domain experts across teams.
  16. Look for innovation opportunities between several teams with willingness to experiment and to boldly confront problems of large complexity and scope.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (or TECHNICAL SKILLS)

  1. Solid experience developing production-quality software at a high scale
  2. Ability to learn new technologies and paradigms rapidly
  3. Strong Java programming skills
  4. Strong backend development, Multithreading, Thread-Pools with strong OOP skills
  5. Strong knowledge of web applications test strategies (UT, IT, UAT, Capacity tests…)
  6. Strong knowledge of REST and GraphQL
  7. Strong knowledge of multiple database products (e.g DynamoDB, ElasticSearch, MySQL, Mongo)
  8. Strong knowledge writing Springboot classic and reactive microservices with Java
  9. Strong knowledge of Distributed / Service-Oriented / Microservice and cloud-based architectures
  10. Strong knowledge building cloudnative applications on AWS, Docker, Kubernetes
  11. Proven track record building architectures for web applications (CDN, API Gateway, Backend For Front End, Authentication, Security)
  12. Proven track record working in an Agile + DevOps development environment
  13. Strong knowledge of DevOps / Continuous Delivery / Continuous Deployment best practices and guidelines
  14. Proven track record of building complete continuous delivery / continuous deployment pipelines;
  15. Experience coaching engineers and documenting the best practices

  7. Imports good ideas from similar situations experienced within their team or other teams across Technology.
  8. Ensures all work is performed to high standards.
  9. Experience working asynchronously with colleagues in different timezones
