Gardens is a fully remote game studio building experiences that connect players and communities. We seek a Lead Backend Engineer to mentor a team of backend engineers, own critical systems, and collaborate across design, production, and marketing to deliver on ambitious game features.

You’ll work in a distributed environment across North American time zones, shaping technology choices, performance, and reliability while maintaining a high-trust culture.

Competenze

• 6+ years of professional backend experience, preferably in games/live-service.
• 2+ years of experience directly leading engineers.
• Strong Kotlin or Java skills and familiarity with Kubernetes, Grafana, Terraform, and load-testing tools.

Mansioni

• Lead a backend engineering team: coaching, hiring plans, interview candidates, and setting goals.
• Own backend architecture evolution and production code on critical systems.
• Ensure reliability, SLIs/SLOs, incident response, and cost management.
• Collaborate with game design, marketing, and production to align features with vision.
