Job summary

Virtusa is seeking a Lead Backend Engineer - Agentic AI in Hartford, CT. The role focuses on production-grade Python development and scalable backend systems with Agentic AI workflows.

The candidate will lead architecture decisions, mentor engineers, and drive adoption of MCP patterns across teams. 3 onsite days per week, contract employment, 5–7+ years of experience, and H1B visa required.

Qualifications

• 5-7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong Python development as primary language.
• Strong SQL and relational database fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience with Agentic AI workflows and/or MCP servers.
• Strong understanding of backend architecture and distributed systems.
• Experience designing scalable and resilient production systems.
• Strong knowledge of SOLID principles, modular design, and separation of concerns.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, production-grade backend services using Python.
• Own technical direction for a workstream or service area.
• Design modular, maintainable services with clear boundaries.
• Build horizontally scalable systems using stateless architecture and proper patterns.
• Design and integrate Agentic AI workflows and MCP-based solutions.
• Lead technical design reviews and establish software engineering standards.
• Mentor engineers on architecture, coding practices, and system design.
• Drive adoption of Agentic AI/MCP patterns across teams.
