Job summary

Archer in San Jose seeks a Lead Special Programs Engineer – Avionics & Electrical to lead avionics and electrical design for prototype vehicles, oversee sensor and mission-systems integration, and define architecture and integration methods.

You will collaborate cross-functionally, perform technical feasibility assessments, and produce analyses to support design maturity and capture decisions while interfacing with government stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Avionics, or Computer Engineering (advanced degree a plus).
  • Demonstrated experience in avionics or electrical systems design and integration for aerospace or defense platforms.
  • Familiarity with data bus and communication protocols (e.g., ARINC, CAN, MIL-STD-1553) a plus.
  • Full development lifecycle experience from concept through prototype in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently with significant technical ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead avionics and electrical design and integration for prototype vehicles, including sensor and mission-systems integration, electrical/data bus architecture, and avionics-to-airframe integration.
  • Support rapid prototyping end-to-end from concept through bench integration, ground test, and flight test support.
  • Own the avionics and electrical discipline within Special Programs, setting technical approach, standards, and integration methods.
  • Conduct feasibility assessments of new opportunities, evaluating viability and required approaches.
  • Serve as a cross-functional technical contributor across Special Programs as needed.
  • Collaborate with program leads and broader Archer teams to align technical approaches with timelines and constraints.
  • Produce technical documentation, trade studies, and analysis packages for reviews and decisions.
  • Represent Special Programs in internal reviews and discussions with government stakeholders.
