Job summary

Thatcher Company in Salt Lake City, UT is seeking an Automation and Controls Engineer to lead and support automation initiatives within our manufacturing operations. You will manage capital projects, improve system performance, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance across facilities.

You will design control system scopes, budgets, and schedules; coordinate with engineering, operations, IT, vendors, and contractors; review designs and oversee commissioning to deliver reliable, efficient

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 5+ years in chemical or manufacturing facilities.
• Experience with PLC systems and ladder logic.
• Willingness to travel up to 15%.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Capability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage control system–related capital projects, including new installations and upgrades.
• Develop project scopes, budgets, and schedules for control initiatives.
• Coordinate with engineering, operations, IT, vendors, and contractors for project execution.
• Review and approve control system designs, programming standards, and hardware selections.
• Oversee commissioning, testing, and startup activities to meet performance and safety standards.
• Monitor and improve manufacturing process control and safety system performance.
• Identify opportunities to improve process monitoring and reliability.
• Provide technical guidance to maintenance and operations teams.
