Job description

Lead Building Automation & Controls Engineer

Location: Milwaukee WI, Phoenix AZ, Atlanta GA, Herndon VA, New York City NY, Troy NY, or Chicago IL.

As a Building Automation & Controls Engineer with kW Mission Critical Engineering, you will collaborate with senior engineers to design automation control and monitoring systems for data centers. You will develop drawing and specification documents, create points lists and sequences of operations, and work with mechanical and electrical engineers to incorporate complex facility controls into larger HVAC and power monitoring designs.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute engineering tasks within projects, working independently or in a team.
  • Support design, proposal, and construction phases under general supervision.
  • Execute controls design for complex projects, documenting drawings and specifications for issuance to architects, contractors, and building owners.
  • Attend client meetings, contributing to discussions and presenting engineering concepts to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal project disciplines and external equipment vendors.
  • Integrate mechanical and electrical requirements into facility controls and monitoring designs.
  • Survey and evaluate existing conditions and review shop drawings to ensure compliance with design requirements.
  • Maintain and develop client relationships, ensuring project delivery meets or exceeds expectations.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related work experience.
  • 7+ years of experience designing building automation control systems for commercial, industrial, or mission‑critical facilities.
  • EIT or registered Professional Engineer (PE), or ability to become licensed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Knowledge of building, mechanical, electrical, and energy codes.
  • Attention to detail, highly organized, self‑starter.
  • Ability to travel to project sites.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Mission‑critical/Data Center experience.
  • International project experience.
Compensation & Benefits

Expected salary: $125,000 – $175,000. WSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits including medical, dental, vision, disability, life, and retirement savings.
