Lead Auditor

Annual Yearly Salary: $66,580.80 - $99,860.80

In an effort to promote honesty, efficiency and public confidence in government and its representatives, the Audit Services Division conducts performance audits and investigates allegations of fraud, waste and abuse in Milwaukee County government operations.

Job Summary:

The Lead Auditor under general direction plans, organizes, supervises and conducts performance audits to reach conclusions regarding economy, efficiency, program effectiveness and compliance with policies procedures and regulations.

Job Duties:
  • Research applicable policies, procedures, resolutions, ordinances, regulations and laws. Research and develop a historical prospective. Observe operations and conduct interviews to obtain a working knowledge of program and operations. Prepare audit work plans.
  • Obtain, examine, and analyze data and records. Lead audit fieldwork. Examine functions and procedures and conduct interviews. Develop and document findings and conclusions.
  • Support drafting of comprehensive and logical audit report based on conclusions developed from audit plan. Review final report with department management and auditee. Perform a quality assurance review.
  • Participate in appropriate training activities and keep abreast of current auditing techniques and trends in terms of both auditing and fraud prevention.
Minimum Education & Experience:
  • Current Resident of the United States of America
  • Must establish residency in the State of Wisconsin within 6 months of hire.
  • A valid driver’s license with access to a reliable means of transportation and the ability to travel to sites within Milwaukee County
  • Bachelor degree in Social Sciences, Business/Public Administration, Finance, Accounting, or closely related field and five (5) or more years of experience performing government performance audits and or other relevant policy/program evaluation work.
  • Master’s degree and three (3) years of experience performing government performance audits and or other relevant policy/program evaluation work will also qualify candidate
  • Basic knowledge of computer and software applications, including word processing and spreadsheets.
Preferred Experience:
  • Performance auditing, Yelllowbook knowledge, CPA/CIA/CFA or other related certifications.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Editing, writing, data analytics, sampling, statistics, accounting, graphic design, research analytics, communication, critical thinking. Exchange, explain and gather basic information, including answering inquires and providing assistance to both internal and external contacts. Interpret and adapt to established practices and procedures, using independent judgement to meet situations where applications are not clearly defined. High level of math, communication, reading, and writing skills and creating reports, and explanations of information. Minimal responsibility for decision-making, instructing and reviewing work of others performing the same or similar work.
