Sig SAUER, Inc. in Oregon is seeking a Lead Assembler II for Optics on 1st shift (05:00–15:30, Mon–Thu). You will lead a shift, run daily stand-ups, and coordinate training and workflow to meet production goals on optic assemblies.

This role requires strong leadership, adherence to safety, and hands-on assembly work in a manufacturing environment, with standing, lifting up to 40 pounds, and strict PPE adherence.

  • Must be a minimum of Assembler II to qualify for the Lead position.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a daily stand‑up meeting at the beginning of the shift and review safety briefings, quality performance, production vs. plan, end of day report, and targets.
  • Participate in monthly meetings with Supervisors and other leads to review training opportunities, 5S audit results, training matrix, and staffing strategy.
  • Knowledge of operational information including status of assembly lines, reviewed work instructions, issues affecting targets, and SKU changeover plans.
  • Transition of shift: ensure tools at each station, complete paperwork/reports, pull jobs for next shift, direct 5S on the line, and interface with incoming lead.
  • Lead areas: determine retraining needs, manage workflow, enforce PPE, monitor performance and adherence to policy, prioritize material flow.
  • Review production numbers per line hourly and complete end-of-shift reports for the supervisor.
  • 5S audit: perform weekly audits and post results on the whiteboard.
  • Escalation: address behavioral or performance issues with the supervisor, contact Manufacturing Engineering for technical concerns, report equipment concerns, and share improvement ideas.

Position Summary

The Lead, Assembler, Optics will perform all duties and responsibilities of their current Assembler position. They are responsible for holding daily team meetings, participating in monthly meetings, maintaining knowledge in identified areas of operations and performing hourly check-ins. This position requires collaboration with internal team members, leads, and supervisors.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct a daily stand‑up meeting at the beginning of the shift and review the following: safety briefings; quality performance; production vs. planned, previous day and month to date; end of day report; production targets for current day; job priority, OSP for Assembly; previous day quality report; and the weekly newsletter.
  • Participate in monthly meetings with Supervisor and other leads to review basic training opportunities, results from the 5S audit, the training matrix, and the staffing strategy.
  • Knowledge of operational information including but not limited to the status of assembly lines; work instructions have been reviewed by all employees; issues or exceptions that impact targets; and SKU changeover plans.
  • Transition of shift: ensure correct tools are available at every station and that all paperwork and reports are complete and up to date; jobs are pulled for the following shift; direct 5s on the line; interface with incoming lead at the shift change.
  • Lead areas: determine if a person needs to be retrained and coordinate training; make decisions on shift people to manage workflow; ensure proper PPE is followed; monitor team performance and policy adherence; and prioritize the flow of material.
  • Review production numbers per line on an hourly basis and complete report for end of shift and provide to the supervisor.
  • 5s audit: audit one cell once a week, follow the 5s audit checklist and post the results on the whiteboard.
  • Escalation points: address behavioral or performance related issues with employees in the group with the Supervisor immediately; contact Manufacturing Engineering regarding technical concerns; elevate equipment concerns to Supervisor; bring safety concerns outside of basic PPE to Supervisor; and share ideas for improvement or reduction in waste.

  • Must meet the requirements for the level of the employee holding the position.
  • Must be a minimum of Assembler II to qualify for the Lead position.
Working Conditions
  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
  • Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
  • Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.
  • The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping, squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
  • Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
  • Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
