Job summary

Royal Caribbean Group in Miami, FL seeks a Lead, Architectural and Design to steer design on newbuilds, revitalizations, and refurbishments. You will lead a team of architects and designers, coordinate with external firms, and ensure the design intent reflects brand standards across vessels.

You will manage resources, guide cross-disciplinary design efforts, and work closely with senior leadership to balance aesthetics with cost and feasibility in a fast-paced maritime environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years design industry experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years managing large scale projects.
  • Minimum of 2 years managing direct reports preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Interior Design required; Architecture preferred.
  • Cruise ship new build or revitalization design experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops team resources to manage large scale projects and coordinates between firms.
  • Leads design across newbuild, revitalization or refurbishment projects.
  • Ensures design intent is credible and aligns with brand concepts.
  • Applies brand and design standards, assists with oversight of materials delivery.
  • Plans and guides design while cross coordinating with external firms.
  • Receives guidance from senior staff on complex issues and challenges.
  • Maintains industry trend awareness and supports design concept development.
  • Supports cost control and conducts occasional practical reviews for operations.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Lead, Architectural and Design provides a leadership role and expertise to the new building projects as assigned by the SVP, Architectural Design. Manages and coordinates architectural design work for newbuild, revitalization or refurbishment projects. Leads and develops a team of architects/designers working on specified projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops team resources (people, processes, tools) to manage large scale projects. Independentlyplans, manages, guides design, and oversees projects, while cross coordinating and sharing best practices effectively between external architectural, interior design and consultancy firms, guiding the design they provide.
  • Leaderwho ensures the design intent isapparentand credible, and that the voice of the Executive Steering Committee and Brand Think Tank is communicated clearly and consistently throughout the design process.
  • Ensures that brand concepts areapparentandcredible andfulfill the voice of the Corporation and each Brand, which continues our culture of design innovation.
  • Applies and ensures the brand & design standards, CADD & drawing standards, and contract references,assistingSupervisor with oversight that project materials are delivered ona timelybasis.
  • Plans,manages,and guides design while cross coordinating and sharing best practices effectively between external architectural, interior design and consultancy firms, guiding the design they provide.
  • Receives guidance and coordinationfrom Sr.Associate and Manager on unusual or complex issues

  • Upholds SQM practices throughout all design phases.
  • Regularlyattendsmeetings with sponsors (clients).
  • Studies,collects,shares, compare,storesstatistical information,andanalyze various ships and areas bringing forth observations.
  • Creates presentations and reports for design management.
  • Assistswith cost complexity balancing along with other cost control needs.
  • Regularlyassistsand occasionally conducts practicality reviews to check that operational, risk or accessibility concerns are being considered in all aspects of design.
  • Assist Sr. Associate with supporting shop drawing review process, and yard / contractor coordination meetings, mockup reviews, factoryvisitsand inspections during newbuilding process and drydock period
  • Stays current in industry trends and innovation through research and market knowledge
  • Occasionally accepts assignments for design concepts, space planning, design development, drawings & details (elevations, sections, details) of designated venues.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages projectspendup to $10 mil for revitalizations and$ 50mil fornewbuilds.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of7yearsdesign industry experiencerequired. Minimumof4years managing large scale projects.
  • Minimum of 2 yearsmanaging directreports preferred.
  • Bachelor’sdegree or equivalent in Interior Designrequired, Architecture preferred.
  • Cruise shipnewbuildor revitalization design experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of cruise ship staterooms or crew areas preferred.
  • Mustpossessskills in at least 2 of the following: AutoCAD, Excel,PowerPoint, Photoshop, Sketchup;MicrosoftProject is nice to know
  • Must beeffectivecommunicator withprojectteam.
