Job description

Advanced Custom Cabinets is an established commercial architectural millwork and casework manufacturer based in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. We build high-quality commercial casework for K-12 and higher education projects, lobby and reception millwork, healthcare and institutional casework, and architectural woodwork for general contractors, architects, and owners across the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Education work is a meaningful share of our project mix. Our team takes craft seriously, and we’re investing in the people and systems that will carry us through our next phase of growth.

About the Role

We’re hiring an experienced Lead Architectural Millwork Engineer to be the senior technical voice in our commercial engineering and drafting group. You’ll work alongside our Engineering/Operations Manager and the rest of the team to drive engineering quality from architectural documents through production-ready shop drawings and CNC output, set drawing standards, and mentor the engineers and drafters around you. You’ll partner closely with project management, estimating, production, and field installation to keep our jobs sequenced and on track.

Lead or Manager — based on your experience

This is a senior role with real ownership of the technical work and a clear seat at the table for engineering decisions. We’re flexible on title and compensation based on your experience: candidates with strong technical depth who are still building their leadership track record enter at the Lead level with a clear path to Engineering Manager; candidates already operating at the Manager level — with proven team leadership and departmental ownership — will be titled and compensated as Engineering Manager from day one. The Lead role can flex to remote with reasonable on-site frequency; the Manager role expects in-person presence at our Coeur d’Alene facility, with relocation assistance available for the right candidate.

Responsibilities
  • Be the senior technical voice on complex commercial jobs — interpret architectural documents (plans, specs, addenda, RFIs) and produce engineering deliverables that translate cleanly into the shop.
  • Help set and maintain drawing and engineering standards aligned with AWI Quality Certification Program / ANSI A0641 Architectural Wood Casework.
  • Generate cut lists, BOMs, travelers, assembly drawings, and work instructions from Cabinet Vision and AutoCAD.
  • Contribute to our Cabinet Vision environment — configuration, libraries, reports, and post‑processing for CNC.
  • Coordinate with Project Management, Estimating, Production, and Installation to keep jobs sequenced and on track.
  • Mentor and develop our commercial engineers and drafters; build the team’s depth and capability over time.
  • Identify and drive improvements in drawing quality, engineering throughput, and Cabinet Vision utilization.
  • Manage schedules and priorities while meeting deadlines — independently solve problems in close coordination with the project team.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of architectural commercial millwork / casework engineering experience for Lead‑level candidates; 10+ years with prior team‑leadership experience for direct entry at Engineering Manager (laminate‑heavy commercial work, AWI Quality Certified shops, or comparable).
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Cabinet Vision (configuration, libraries, reports, and CNC post‑processing).
  • Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD for commercial shop drawings and submittals.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret architectural plans, specifications, addenda, architect submittal markups, and RFI cycles.
  • Deep working knowledge of AWI standards — Quality Certification Program, Architectural Wood Casework, and adjacent standards.
  • Track record of producing high‑quality commercial submittal sets and production‑ready shop drawings for projects such as K‑12 and higher education, healthcare casework, lab work, institutional, and lobby / reception millwork.
  • Strong communication with architects, general contractors, project managers, and shop personnel.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Skills

These strengthen an application but are not required.

  • AWI, Wood Institute (WI), or PMI certifications move you to the front of the list.
  • Prior leadership or formal management of an engineering or drafting team — qualifies you for direct entry at the Engineering Manager title and compensation level.
  • Cabinet Vision implementation, configuration, or post‑processor setup experience — software‑environment work in addition to production engineering is a strong plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Industrial Technology, or related field (substantial relevant experience considered in lieu).
  • Experience with CNC machinery setup, integration, and optimization.
Pay range and compensation package

Compensation commensurate with experience and title. Lead Architectural Millwork Engineer: $80,000 – $100,000 annually. Engineering Manager: $100,000 – $130,000 based on experience for candidates entering directly at the Manager level.

  • Annual bonus tied to individual and company performance.
  • Full‑time, Monday through Friday. 8‑hour shifts; occasional weekends as project schedules require.
  • Paid vacation and paid holidays.
  • Health benefits: medical, dental, vision, and employer‑paid life insurance with optional buy‑up coverage.
  • 401(k) plan with employer match.
  • Relocation assistance available for the right candidate.
  • Quality of life: Coeur d’Alene is a four‑season Pacific Northwest community with lake, mountain, and trail access in every direction — a real upgrade over many comparable industry markets.
