Job summary

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point seeks an Animal Care Technician III to support the Northern Aquaculture Demonstration Facility in Bayfield, WI. You will assist in fish culture, contribute to grant-funded research projects, and coordinate activities with staff, volunteers and interns.

Responsibilities include animal care, equipment maintenance, record keeping, and training of others, with a focus on safety and compliance. A BS/MS in a water-science field is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience with aquaculture systems, including RAS.
• Understanding of culture of Atlantic salmon, rainbow trout, lake trout, walleye, or related freshwater species.
• Skills in basic aquaculture facility and equipment maintenance (e.g., small engine repair, net mending, carpentry, PVC piping).
• Valid driver's license and ability to drive state vehicles.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Skills for research project tasks including database management, basic statistics, and scientific writing.

Responsibilities

• Observe animal behavior, perform care, and report concerns.
• Maintain records of unit procedures.
• Inspect, maintain, and initiate repairs to equipment.
• Prepare food and feeds according to schedules.
• Track inventory and place replenishment orders.
• Lead day-to-day operations and train staff.
