Job Description Summary
As a Lead Application Engineer within our MR Engineering team, you will develop MR pulse-sequence and clinical application capabilities that help improve image quality, clinical workflow, and data-acquisition efficiency.
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary MR physics and software team, collaborating with engineers, Marketing, customers, and internal and external researchers to translate clinical and technical needs into new MR applications.
This role combines MR physics, pulse-sequence/application development, and software engineering and provides the opportunity to take ideas from requirements and feasibility work through implementation and system integration.

Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and evaluate new MR pulse-sequence and application features.
  • Develop solutions focused on improving MR image quality, workflow, and data-acquisition efficiency.
  • Partner with Marketing, customers, researchers, and engineering teams to understand clinical and technical needs and translate them into application requirements.
  • Perform pulse-sequence implementation and feasibility testing in clinical and development environments.
  • Apply statistical and quantitative analysis to evaluate performance and improve software quality.
  • Develop, test, and integrate software components into MR systems in accordance with established software-development policies and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues using MR physics, imaging fundamentals, software-development skills, and data-driven analysis.
  • Communicate technical findings, tradeoffs, risks, and recommendations effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Collaborate across functions to move application-development work from concept through implementation and integration.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Physics, or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years of relevant professional or research experience, including applicable graduate-school or Ph.D. research experience.
  • Strong understanding of MR physics and medical-imaging fundamentals.
  • Experience working in Linux development environments.
  • Software-development experience in C.
  • Experience with object-oriented design and development, including C++.
  • Experience using Python for software development, analysis, testing, or related technical work.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary technical teams.
Desired Characteristics
  • Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Physics, or a related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience designing, developing, modifying, or testing MR pulse sequences.
  • Experience developing MR clinical applications or working with MR imaging systems.
  • Experience with GE Signa EPIC programming language.
  • Experience conducting feasibility testing in clinical or similarly controlled environments.
  • Experience working within a regulated product-development environment.
  • Ability to understand customer or clinical needs and translate them into actionable technical requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate technical problems, use quantitative evidence, and collaborate across functions to develop solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn complex development environments and work effectively within established engineering processes and standards.
What You'll Work On

In this role, you will contribute directly to the technology that determines how MR systems acquire and create images. Your work may include developing and improving pulse sequences, evaluating image quality, improving acquisition efficiency, and helping simplify clinical workflows.

You will work closely with a core team spanning MR physics and software engineering while also interacting with researchers, customers, Marketing, and other engineering partners.

  • Delivering technically sound pulse-sequence and application solutions that meet defined requirements.

  • Connecting technical development work to improvements in image quality, acquisition efficiency, workflow, or other defined application outcomes.
Work Environment

This position is based in Waukesha, Wisconsin and requires onsite presence three days per week. The role includes work within an MR development environment, with appropriate MR safety and security training provided.
