Job Description:

This position offers the opportunity for conversion to a permanent role based on performance. Candidates should be fully comfortable working 5 days a week on-site at the McLean, VA office. This is a full-time, in-office role with no remote/hybrid flexibility.

About the Role:

Seeking an experienced Lead Appian Developer to lead design, development, and implementation of internal applications on the Appian platform, focusing on integration, automation, and scalable architecture. The role involves guiding junior developers, driving application architecture, and supporting infrastructure modernization, including Kubernetes deployment models for Appian Cloud.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead design, architecture, and development of Appian applications supporting functions like internal audit and finance.
• Mentor and guide a team of 7+ developers as the primary technical lead.
• Create architecture diagrams, design integrations, and discuss security and network design.
• Collaborate with stakeholders on integration requirements with systems such as Active Directory, Snowflake, Dremio, etc.
• Evaluate and contribute to Kubernetes-based infrastructure for Appian.
• Manage Java-based Appian plugin development and troubleshoot as needed.
• Support weekly releases and be on-call during production weekends (rotational).
• Ensure successful CI/CD pipeline deployments and adhere to DevOps best practices.

Must-Have Qualifications:

• 10+ years of IT experience with leadership in software development.
• 7+ years of hands-on Appian design, development, and configuration experience (2017–2024).
• 5+ years of Core Java development, including plugin development.
• 5+ years using CI/CD tools like Jenkins, Bamboo, Atlassian Suite.
• 5+ years working with APIs, databases (DB2, Sybase, PostgreSQL, MS SQL), and enterprise integrations.
• 3+ years creating application architecture, security, and integration strategies.
• Strong understanding of infrastructure, security models, Kubernetes, AWS, or Appian Cloud.
• Experience with automation scripts using Ansible/Python.
• Ability to participate in whiteboard coding exercises.

Nice-to-Have:

• Appian Certifications.
• Experience with Dremio and data virtualization platforms.
• Knowledge of Appian Cloud monitoring and debugging.
• Snowflake integration experience within BPM systems.
