Job summary

Jungle Island is seeking a Supervisor of Animal Care to lead daily animal care activities and supervise the department. This working role involves training, handling, and presenting animals for encounters, educational programs and shows, reporting to the Animal Care Curator.

The candidate will participate in stage presentations and ensure safety, records and operations run smoothly. Requirements include a biology- or psychology-related degree (preferred) and at least 3 years of professional

Qualifications

A college degree in any of the biological sciences or psychology is preferred.
At least 3 years of professional experience in training animals, animal handling and husbandry is required.
The ability to produce a valid Florida driver license may be required.

Responsibilities

Maintain trained behaviors as directed by the Curator.
Teach less experienced team members the science of animal husbandry.
Transport animals for exhibits, vet procedures, or performances.
Work with the Animal Care Curator on exhibit maintenance, food prep, and safety drills.
Maintain a high level of team motivation in a positive work environment.
Make sound decisions in a challenging, high-paced environment.
Comfortably handle animals near guests, on stage, on camera, and during appearances.
