Job description

  • Audio Framework / Audio HAL / AudioFlinger / Audio Policy

Logitech is the Sweet Spot for people who want their actions to have a positive global impact while having the flexibility to do it in their own way.

The Role:

We are looking for a highly experienced Android Systems Engineer with deep expertise in building Android-based appliance products. This role is focused on the development, integration, optimization, and delivery of purpose-built Android devices where reliability, performance, security, and hardware/software integration are critical.

The ideal candidate has strong hands‑on experience across the Android software stack, including Linux kernel development, device drivers, Android HAL, Android framework services, and system-level debugging. The candidate should also have deep domain knowledge in at least one major Android subsystem such as the Camera Framework, Display Framework, or Audio Framework, with the ability to work across multiple subsystems as needed.

This role is well suited for an engineer who can operate from low‑level hardware bring‑up through Android framework integration and production software delivery.

The successful candidate will be someone who can move comfortably between architecture and hands‑on debugging. They should be able to understand a product requirement, trace it through the Android framework, HAL, kernel, driver, and hardware layers, and identify the right solution.

This person should bring strong engineering judgment, deep Android system knowledge, and the ability to deliver reliable appliance software in a complex hardware/software environment. They should be comfortable working directly with internal teams, external technology partners, and executive stakeholders when needed.

Your Contribution

In this role, you will help

  • Architect, develop, and deliver Android‑based appliance platforms for advanced video collaboration and embedded systems products.
  • You will work closely with hardware, firmware, platform software, application, QA, manufacturing, and partner engineering teams to ensure the complete system works reliably from bootloader and kernel through Android services and user‑facing functionality.
  • You will be expected to solve complex system integration issues, guide technical decisions, review platform architecture, and contribute directly to high‑quality production software.
Key Responsibilities
Android Platform and Appliance Development
  • Develop and integrate Android‑based software platforms for purpose‑built appliance devices.
  • Customize and optimize Android system behavior for dedicated appliance use cases, including kiosk‑style operation, controlled user experience, device management, security, and reliability.
  • Work across Android framework, native services, HAL layers, kernel, and device‑specific software components.
  • Support Android platform bring‑up on new SoC platforms and hardware designs.
  • Integrate BSP releases from SoC vendors, ODMs, JDMs, and technology partners.
  • Drive platform stability, boot performance, recovery behavior, update mechanisms, and production readiness.
Kernel, Driver, and Low‑Level System Development
  • Develop, debug, and maintain Linux kernel components for Android‑based products.
  • Work on device drivers for camera, audio, display, touch, USB, I2C, SPI, GPIO, Ethernet, power management, and other hardware interfaces.
  • Debug low‑level system issues involving interrupts, memory, DMA, device tree, clocks, power rails, and peripheral initialization.
  • Analyze kernel logs, tombstones, traces, crash dumps, and other diagnostic data to isolate complex system failures.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to validate board‑level behavior and resolve hardware/software integration issues.
  • Optimize kernel and driver performance for system latency, throughput, power, and reliability.
  • Android Camera, Display, and Audio Framework Integration
  • Provide deep technical leadership in one or more Android multimedia subsystems, including:
Android Camera Framework
  • Camera HAL, camera provider, camera service, capture pipeline, sensor integration, ISP interaction, metadata, stream configuration, multi‑camera use cases, image quality tuning support, and camera performance optimization.
Android Display Framework
  • SurfaceFlinger, Hardware Composer, display HAL, graphics buffers, composition, HDMI/display output, resolution handling, refresh behavior, EDID handling, and display performance.
Android Audio Framework
  • Audio HAL, AudioFlinger, audio policy, routing, capture/playback paths, microphone arrays, speakers, echo cancellation integration, latency optimization, and audio device bring‑up.
  • Work with application and product teams to ensure camera, display, and audio features meet real‑world product requirements.
  • Debug cross‑subsystem issues involving camera preview, video encode/decode, display output, audio capture/playback, synchronization, and system performance.
Android HAL and Framework Services
  • Design, develop, and debug Android HAL implementations and vendor services.
  • Work with AIDL/HIDL interfaces, native daemons, Binder IPC, SELinux policies, and Android system services.
  • Integrate vendor‑specific functionality into the Android framework while maintaining platform stability and upgradeability.
  • Resolve compatibility, permission, security, and lifecycle issues across Android services and vendor components.
  • Support Android compatibility, certification, and production software requirements.
System Architecture and Technical Leadership
  • Contribute to architecture decisions for new Android appliance platforms.
  • Evaluate SoC capabilities, BSP quality, multimedia pipelines, hardware interfaces, and system performance tradeoffs.
  • Review partner designs and technical proposals from SoC vendors, ODMs, JDMs, and technology partners.
  • Provide technical guidance to internal engineering teams and external partners.
  • Create design documents, architecture diagrams, debugging guides, and technical recommendations.
  • Mentor engineers in Android platform development, kernel debugging, HAL design, and system integration.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 8+ years of experience in embedded Linux, Android platform development, or Android device software engineering.
  • Strong hands‑on experience building and shipping Android‑based hardware products.
  • Deep understanding of Android architecture, including framework, native services, HAL, vendor partition, system services, and boot process.
  • Strong Linux kernel development experience, including device drivers, device tree, kernel configuration, debugging, and performance analysis.

  • Camera Framework / Camera HAL
  • Display Framework / Hardware Composer / SurfaceFlinger
  • Audio Framework / Audio HAL / AudioFlinger / Audio Policy
  • Strong debugging skills across kernel, native Android, framework, and application layers.
  • Experience with Android build systems, AOSP, Soong/Make, Git, Gerrit, and CI workflows.
  • Experience with SELinux policy development and Android security model.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross‑functional teams and external partners.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing Android appliance, video conferencing, smart display, collaboration, consumer electronics, or enterprise device products.
  • Experience with multi‑camera systems, video pipelines, ISP tuning, image processing, or computer vision workloads.
  • Experience with audio DSPs, microphone arrays, beamforming, echo cancellation, or low‑latency audio systems.
  • Experience with HDMI, USB, Ethernet, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, touch controllers, and display interfaces.
  • Experience with Android Enterprise, device management, kiosk mode, secure boot, OTA updates, and factory provisioning.
  • Experience working with SoC vendors such as Qualcomm, MediaTek, NXP, Ambarella, Rockchip, or similar platforms.
