Job description

We are looking for a passionate Android Engineer to lead our team, working with a top-notch technology stack in a friendly and cozy atmosphere for one of the greatest retail companies in the USA. Our client is a top-tier fashion retailer focused on delivering exceptional shopping experiences.

And then there's Zoolatech! Just imagine a workplace and a team environment that you never want to leave once you have found it. Sound enticing?

We are a close-knit team of iOS & Android developers, designers, testers, and product owners collaborating to make our client's mobile applications incredible. We strive to delight our customers with each new release. We work in a high-speed, agile environment to ship features in the shortest time possible. We value energy, collaboration, and teamwork. We are constantly improving professionally, and expect the same from you.

Lead the architecture, development, and maintenance of our Android mobile applications, ensuring scalability, performance, and long-term maintainability.

Set technical direction for the Android codebase, making key decisions on frameworks, patterns, and tooling.

Champion and embed AI-native development practices across the product development lifecycle - from AI-assisted planning and design through AI-augmented coding, testing, and release.

Write clean, maintainable code and lead peer code reviews, with an excellent, hands-on understanding of core Android concepts.

Write unit and integration tests for your code, and establish testing standards and coverage goals for the team, leveraging AI for test generation and coverage analysis.

Work with other team members to investigate design approaches, prototype new technology, and evaluate technical feasibility, leveraging AI tools to accelerate discovery, prototyping, and estimation.

Collaborate with designers, product owners, web service developers, and other teams to produce the best applications possible, and represent the Android team in cross-functional and planning discussions.

Mentor and guide Android engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical coaching, including coaching on effective use of AI coding assistants and tools.

Evaluate and introduce new Android technologies, tools, and trends - including emerging AI-assisted development tools - and drive their adoption where they add value.

Define and iterate on team workflows to incorporate AI-native PDLC practices (e.g., AI-assisted code generation, automated test generation, AI-powered code review, and documentation).

Act as the primary point of contact for Android-related technical questions across teams.

Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and performance feedback for Android team members.

5+ years of professional experience as an Android Engineer, including prior experience leading or mentoring engineers.

Deep expertise in Kotlin, with a strong track record of shipping production Android apps at scale.

Must have experience: Kotlin Coroutines, Retrofit, Android SDK, Jetpack Compose.

Good to have experience (a plus): DI frameworks, Espresso, Modular Mobile Application Design.

Strong, hands-on understanding of Robolectric, unit testing, and integration testing, with the ability to set testing standards across the team.

Proven track record with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Agile/iterative methodologies, with experience shaping team process.

Deep knowledge of the idiosyncrasies associated with various mobile platforms, screen resolutions, and mobile OS versions, and ability to guide framework/tooling decisions for the team.

Hands-on experience integrating AI-native tools and workflows into the product development lifecycle (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar AI coding assistants) for code generation, review, and testing.

Familiarity with prompt engineering practices and using AI tools to accelerate design, documentation, and technical decision-making.

Self-directed and team-oriented, with a strong ability to lead cross-functional collaboration.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.

Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and lead by example on technical execution, including adoption of AI-native development practices.
