As a lead engineer, you serve as the technical anchor for the engineering team that supports a product. You create, own, and are responsible for the application architecture that best serves the product in its functional and non-functional needs. You identify and drive architectural changes to accelerate feature development or improve the quality of service (or both). You have deep and broad engineering skills and are capable of standing up an architecture in its whole on your own, but you choose to influence a wider team by acting as a “force multiplier”. Core responsibilities of this job are described within this job description. Job duties may change at any time due to business needs.

About these teams:

As a Stores Mobile Android Engineer, you will work on one of the teams designing and implementing our exciting Stores Mobile UI apps. These apps are used by all team members in stores to do fulfillment, checkout, receive, create, execute, and inform about tasks related to practically all activities in the stores. This includes all the easy-to-see things, like knowing when to restock shelves, unload trucks, order groceries, change prices, and move things around when displays change. It also includes everything from inventory control, notifications, managing expiring items, and logging cleaning and other events. We do this all on a native Android application, leveraging numerous enterprise systems and APIs to provide rich data through a consistent and user-first designed interface.

As a Lead Engineer in the Stores Mobile UI space you will:

  • Help define and drive the engineering culture and project direction of our in-store Android apps and teams.
  • Participate in the ownership of the software development lifecycle.
  • Partner with data and infrastructure teams to ensure a comprehensive environment for our application’s success.
  • Help develop and grow other engineers, striving for high code quality, integrity, and reliability.
  • Influence over one of the most crucial applications developed at Target for our team members.

Core responsibilities are described within this job description. Job duties may change at any time due to business needs.

About you:

  • 4-year degree or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of software development experience with at least one full cycle implementation.
  • 5+ years of experience developing apps for Android.
  • Experience developing in Kotlin.
  • Strong domain-specific knowledge regarding Target’s technology capabilities and key competitors’ products.
  • Broad and deep expertise in multiple programming languages and frameworks.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Expertise in system capacity, performance, and operational health optimization.
  • Experience in building highly scalable distributed systems.

This position may be considered for a Remote or Hybrid work arrangement based on Target's needs. Details about these arrangements are provided in the original description.
