Job summary

Bumble Inc. is seeking an experienced Android Engineer in Austin. You will design and implement scalable app features, working with Kotlin and modern Android practices in a hybrid onsite setup.

You will collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to ship advanced features and improve code quality. Ideal candidates have 7+ years building production Android apps, expertise in MVVM/MVI/Clean Architecture, and a strong grasp of UI and network integration.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional experience building and shipping Android apps.
• Proficient in Kotlin and modern Android practices.
• Experience with Jetpack Compose and XML-based UIs.
• Designed and maintained Android architectures (MVVM/MVI/Clean Architecture).
• Strong understanding of Android lifecycle, threading, performance, and memory.
• Experience integrating networked APIs and offline considerations.
• End-to-end ownership from design to release; strong communication and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain Bumble application features that are scalable, secure, and reliable, using GCP services.
• Drive technically complex individual product features from inception to delivery, owning the full software development lifecycle.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and other Engineers to ship new features and improvements.
• Evaluate and apply AI‑based development tools and workflows to enhance productivity and code quality.
• Lead architecture discussions and propose technical solutions that support long‑term scalability.
• Support junior engineers through pairing, mentoring, and code reviews.
• Guide the development of engineering standards and best practices to maintain a high‑quality codebase.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional experience building and shipping production Android applications.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin and experience with modern Android development practices.
• Experience building UIs using Jetpack Compose and/or XML‑based views, with an understanding of their tradeoffs.
• Proven experience designing and maintaining Android application architectures (e.g. MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture) in medium‑to‑large codebases.
• Solid understanding of Android platform fundamentals, including activity/fragment lifecycle, threading, performance, and memory management.
• Experience integrating and consuming networked APIs from Android clients, including error handling and offline considerations.
• Experience owning Android features end‑to‑end, from technical design and implementation through testing and release.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, inclusive mindset.
• Own meaningful projects that directly impact millions of Bumble users.

Job Details

This role is based in Austin, and we ask that you’re within a commutable distance to this office, so that you’re able to come onsite regularly to collaborate across engineering teams. We have a hybrid environment that requires you to be in the office Monday – Wednesday. Please note: We are unable to offer Visa sponsorship at this time.
