Job summary

Asiacruit seeks a Lead Physical AI / Vision-Language-Action Research Scientist to drive the development and adaptation of foundation models that connect visual perception, language understanding, and robotic actions. You will guide research and implementation to help robots interpret visual data, follow natural-language instructions, and generate actionable behaviors for navigation and manipulation.

This role blends multimodal AI, foundation models, and robotic learning in a remote US-based team

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, AI, Robotics, ML, or related field.
• 4+ years of experience in multimodal AI, foundation models, vision-language models, imitation learning, or robotic learning.
• Strong experience with large multimodal models, ViT, or related architectures.
• Proficient in Python and PyTorch or JAX.
• Experience with VLA architectures and open-weight VLA models (OpenVLA, Octo, π0).
• Familiarity with Hugging Face workflows and PEFT methods (LoRA).
• Understanding multimodal representation learning, visual perception, and language-conditioned action generation.
• Knowledge of robotic imitation learning, policy learning, or RL.
• Nice to have Open X-Embodiment knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Lead adaptation and development of Vision-Language-Action models for robotic applications.
• Fine-tune open-weight VLA models such as OpenVLA, Octo, and π0 for navigation and manipulation tasks.
• Develop multimodal representations linking camera observations, language instructions, spatial reasoning, and robot actions.
• Design action-tokenization and spatial waypoint generation for robotic behavior.
• Build parameter-efficient fine-tuning pipelines using LoRA and PEFT methods.
• Work with ViT and large multimodal models to enhance perception and decision-making.
• Translate model outputs into executable robotic behaviors in collaboration with controls teams.
• Lead research planning, experiments, and evaluations to improve model performance.
• Mentor researchers and engineers in model adaptation, training, evaluation, and deployment.
