Optum AI is seeking a Lead AI/ML Applied Scientist to work remotely within the United States. You will develop and deploy ML models, run experiments, and mentor teams while collaborating with healthcare data engineers and leaders.

Ideal candidates hold a PhD, 10+ years in ML/AI, and 5+ years building business-focused models using Python, PyTorch, or TensorFlow, with expertise in NLP, speech, and multimodal ML.

Qualifications

• PhD in AI, computer science, data science, applied math or related technical field.
• 10+ years of industry/academic experience in machine learning or a related field.
• 5+ years of building models for business applications.
• 5+ years of Python programming with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Advanced understanding of deep learning with applications in speech processing, NLP and multimodal modeling.

Responsibilities

• Build machine learning models, perform PoCs, experiment, optimize, and deploy into production.
• Analyze healthcare data to develop actionable insights.
• Run A/B experiments, collect data, and perform statistical analysis.
• Establish scalable automated processes for large-scale data analysis and model serving.
• Research and implement innovative ML approaches; mentor AI/ML scientists.
