Capital One is seeking a Lead AI Engineer to build responsible, scalable AI systems and solutions that transform banking experiences. You will work with engineers, researchers, and product teams to deploy foundation model training, large language model inference, and AI services at scale.

The role requires strong software engineering and AI expertise, cloud experience, and a passion for applying cutting-edge research to production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus 4+ years of experience developing AI/ML algorithms or technologies
• At least 4 years of experience programming with Python, Go, Scala, or Java
• 6 years of experience deploying scalable and responsible AI solutions on cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure or equivalent)
• Experience designing, developing, delivering, and supporting AI services
• Experience developing AI/ML algorithms using Python, C++, C#, Java, or Golang
• Experience optimizing training and inference software to improve hardware utilization, latency, throughput and cost
• Staying abreast of latest AI research and judiciously applying novel techniques in production

Responsibilities

• Partner with a cross-functional team of engineers, research scientists, PMs, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components including model training and inference, guardrails, evaluation, and observability
• Leverage a broad stack of Open Source and SaaS AI technologies (AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, PyTorch)
• Invent and introduce state-of-the-art LLM optimization techniques to improve performance, cost, latency, and throughput
• Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems at Capital One
