Job summary

Epic Games is seeking a Principal Al Programmer to build AI-enabled features inside Unreal Engine. You will design and ship end-to-end LLM-driven systems, spanning engine-side tooling, cloud services, and a web UI, delivering robust, scalable AI capabilities for real-time interactive experiences.

The role requires deep C++ and Python skills, experience with LLM tooling, and a strong mathematical engineering mindset.

Qualifications

Experience with Unreal Engine and engine architecture.
Practical or strong conceptual understanding of LLMs and tool-calling.
Experience with cloud-native services, APIs, databases, and deployment architectures.
Excellent programming skills in C++ and Python, or a web backend language.
Ability to work full-stack and reason about tradeoffs between engine code, backend services, and UI.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Design and build LLM-driven agents and tools inside Unreal Engine using engine-side C++/Python and editor scripting.
Extend the cloud-hosted agent harness, services, and database mediating LLMs and the engine.
Work across engine tooling, cloud backend, and web UI to ship end-to-end features.
Evaluate and integrate emerging LLM capabilities into Epic’s engine tooling and pipelines.
Define technical direction for reliability, safety, and evaluation of LLM-driven engine automation.
Collaborate with engine, tools, and backend programmers, mentoring others on game engine internals and LLM system design.
