Job summary

The Pennsylvania State University’s Applied Research Laboratory in State College, PA, seeks a Division Head to lead the Advanced Manufacturing and Materials Engineering (AMME) Division within MMSO. The role focuses on developing and transitioning technology to meet Navy, IC, and other federal needs, and on mentoring faculty and staff.

You will build a strategic vision for AMME, manage a broad research portfolio, collaborate with ARL management, recruit top talent, and develop sponsor

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science required.
• Extensive experience leading multidisciplinary teams in a research environment.
• Eligibility for DoD security clearance (Secret) may be required.

Responsibilities

• Lead scientists and engineers in technology development and program planning.
• Mentor faculty and staff, support PI development and sponsorship activities.
• Define AMME vision, identify new tech, equipment, and facilities.
• Manage AMME portfolio through sponsors, dept heads, and staff.
• Collaborate with ARL management to implement strategic plan.
• Maintain technical leadership and sponsor relationships.
• Foster multidisciplinary opportunities with other ARL divisions.
• Oversee budgets, personnel, and laboratories.
• Lead recruitment and retention of faculty and staff.
• Develop university partnerships and affiliations with departments.
