Job summary

The Pennsylvania State University’s Applied Research Laboratory in State College, PA, is seeking a Mechanical Research and Development Engineer. You will contribute to design, analysis, simulation, and testing for advanced materials and fabrication methods, including ceramics and metal matrix composites, in DoD-related projects.

Responsibilities include machining, testing, document control, and operating deposition systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science and 2+ years of relevant experience (for intermediate level) or more for professional level
  • Strong machining background including CNC and manual processes; familiarity with repair and maintenance technologies

Responsibilities

  • Assist with sample production and Cold Spray process support equipment setup and assembly
  • Fabricate/machine/test materials for projects
  • Coordinate with faculty, engineers, and project managers on task scope and resources
  • Fabricate daily specimens and test equipment
  • Document process parameters and procedures
  • Operate and maintain Cold Spray, CAM and robotic deposition systems
  • Inspect and calibrate equipment; perform facility maintenance as needed
  • Assist senior staff with data gathering and archiving
  • Develop procedures and process evaluations
