Job description

Location: Chicago, IL

About Corgi

Corgi is the first AI insurance company replacing every part of the insurance value chain with AI. We have raised over $378 million at a $4.1 billion valuation, we are EBITDA positive, and we are scaling quickly across commercial lines.

We are full stack by design. We own carriers, reinsurers, captives, RRGs, and more, which means the products we build are ours end to end rather than someone else's paper. We work out of offices in San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Salt Lake City, and London.

We are looking for an FSA who will own life and health rate and form filings end to end, from pricing through Department of Insurance approval and implementation. You will be our first life and health actuary, which means you set the standards rather than inherit them.

Compensation

$150,000 to $350,000 depending on experience, plus equity. As an early hire you will hold a meaningful stake in the company you are helping to license.

You Will Be Working With:
  • Our founding actuary (FCAS).
  • Our head of portfolio risk (FIA).
  • Two quantitative pricing researchers.
  • Our forward deployed engineers.
What You'll Do
  • Certify rate filings under your own name, including the actuarial memorandum and supporting exhibits.
  • Own health rate development end to end where we write it: Unified Rate Review Template Parts I through III, index rate build, trend and morbidity support, and the certification that goes with them.
  • Handle life and annuity form and rate filings, including nonforfeiture compliance, illustration certifications where applicable, and Interstate Compact filings where the product qualifies.
  • Run the objection cycle with state reviewers and rate review actuaries, and get filings approved on a timeline the business can plan around.
  • Build the rating and experience infrastructure alongside our engineers rather than filing against spreadsheets someone else maintains.
  • Take a realistic path toward appointed actuary as the company grows, including asset adequacy analysis and the VM-30 opinion.
Required
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
  • Qualified under the US Qualification Standards to issue the statements of actuarial opinion this role requires.
  • At least three years of actuarial work experience in life, health, or both.
Nice To Have
  • You have filed through SERFF under your own name and know how exhibits, objection responses, and effective date pressure actually work.
  • Experience with ACA-compliant individual or small group rate filings and federal rate review, or with long-term care and disability rate increase filings.
  • Experience with principle-based reserving under VM-20, or with product development carried through pricing, filing, and launch.
  • Time spent inside a state insurance department, or on the reviewer side of health rate review.
  • You are comfortable with growing regulatory scrutiny of predictive models, external data, and algorithmic underwriting in life and health.
  • You learn quickly, take ownership from start to finish, and are happy wearing multiple hats in a company that is building its actuarial department rather than inheriting one.
