Job summary

Forest View Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI, part of Universal Health Services, seeks a Lead Activity Therapist to support the Director of Clinical Services and oversee the Recreational Therapy Program.

The role requires a Bachelor of Science in Recreational or Occupational Therapy, CTRS certification, and 1–3 years of related experience. A Master’s degree is preferred, with a focus on patient-centered care within a 108-bed psychiatric facility.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement hospital-wide activity programming.

  • Complete bio-psychosocial assessments for inpatients and partial hospitalization patients.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for patient interactions.
  • Lead or assist with groups and activities for a diverse patient population.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans based on needs assessments and patient interests.
  • Mentor new staff onboarding to the Activities Therapy team.

Forest View Hospital, located just seven miles southeast of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, is a private 108 bed psychiatric facility that serves children, adolescents and adults. We are licensed by the State of Michigan, fully accredited by The Joint Commission and we bring more than 45 years of experience to the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of behavioral health problems. As a part of our continued success and growth, we are seeking qualified applicants for a Lead Activity Therapist - Full Time.

The Lead Activity Therapist is responsible for assisting the Director of Clinical Services with operational oversight and development of the Recreational Therapy Program. The Lead Activity Therapist is responsible to assess, educate and develop recreational, social, leisure and daily living skills. They are responsible for planning and implementing unit activity services for assigned program, which involves defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and providing continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • In collaboration with the Director of Clinical Services and the Activities Therapy Staff, coordinates, plans and implements team-specific and hospital-wide programming, and establishes activity-related treatment goals.
  • May participate in the interview and selection of candidates for the Clinical Services Department.
  • Completes bio-psychosocial assessments for patients admitted to the inpatient unit, and patients admitted to the partial hospitalization program.
  • Completes accurate and timely documentation for every patient interaction.
  • Leads or assists with groups and activities designed to meet the needs of a diverse patient population.
  • Actively participates in the treatment planning process. Develop treatment plan to meet needs of patient, based on needs assessment, patient interests, and objectives.
  • Serves as a mentor to new staff onboarding to the Activities Therapy team and actively participates in the training and orientation of all team members.
  • Orders supplies in line with departmental budget.
  • Operates in an ethical manner and promotes respectful, open, and honest communication and cooperation between departments, co-workers and leaders.
  • Attends and participates in all assigned meetings.
  • Reports all safety concerns upon discovery to a supervisor, Loss Control Coordinator, Maintenance and/or Environment of Care (EOC) Committee member.
  • Abides by the Hospital’s Safety policies. If injured, complete Employee Accident Report and submit it to the Loss Control Coordinator by the end of the shift worked, and no later than 24 hours after the injury occurred and abides by the Return to Work/Light Duty Program guidelines. If it is a work-related injury and it results in a back injury, completes Back Injury Prevention Training with the Staff Development Coordinator.
  • Meets all annual competency requirements as assigned per department standards.
