Job summary

University of Illinois Chicago invites applications for Lead Academic Advisor - Computer Science. The role provides strategic direction for academic advising and direct service to students from orientation through graduation within the Computer Science department.

You will mentor advisors, oversee complex student cases, and lead training initiatives while collaborating with department leadership to advance student success and program goals on campus in Chicago.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of five years of advising or student support experience in a college or university setting.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver student-centered advising while upholding institutional standards.
• Demonstrated knowledge of research-based best practices in academic advising and student success.
• Experience in student success initiatives or retention-focused programs.
• Proficiency with campus information systems and advising platforms.
• Familiarity with data-informed analytics approaches used to assess student success.
• Demonstrated leadership through committees or task forces.

Responsibilities

• Provides strategic direction on academic policies guiding degree progress.
• Regularly meets with students to determine degree progress and supports other advisors with their caseloads.
• Acts as a resource for advisors, career counselors, faculty and students regarding college programs.
• Reviews current research in student support to implement best practices in advising.
• Articulates transfer courses and coordinates articulation with other colleges.
• Chairs or participates on committees and leads related workshops and orientations.
• Serves as a College representative for campus committees guiding academic and student affairs.
• Creates training and professional development opportunities for academic advisors.
