POSITION SUMMARY

The Community College of Aurora (CCA) is a dynamic institution that strives to serve its diverse staff and student population founded on principles of equity and inclusion. Our Academic Coaches/Advisors are an integral part of assuring our students are equipped with the information, resources, and tools to be successful on their academic journey.

Academic Advisors are caring, enthusiastic, hard-working, and passionate staff who work collaboratively within enrollment management and student success entities. They develop intentional student support services along each student’s pathway to encourage growth and contribute to successful degree/certificate completion at CCA. Academic Advisors provide proactive, intentional, and developmental academic advising and career coaching for students in alignment with their Guided Pathways. Our Academic Advisors support students by helping them to explore educational and career goals proactively, navigate their Academic Course Maps, track academic progression and completion towards a degree/certificate, and proactively intervene as necessary for inside and outside of the classroom student support. Academic Advisors also provide transfer information, make campus and community referrals as needed, and engage in basic financial aid conversations with students.

Academic Advisors are instrumental in creating a welcoming environment for students through intentional communication, excellent interaction, and proactive student-centered engagement that promotes a sense of belonging for all current and future CCA students. The Lead Academic Advisor will exemplify all the attributes and characteristics of an Academic Advisor, providing leadership and supervision along with assistance in the coordination of advising services.

OVERVIEW OF CCA

The Community College of Aurora serves our diverse community by providing high-quality instruction and support services to prepare students for transfer and employment. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Academic Momentum Responsibilities:
  • Maintain knowledge of the curricula for CCA degrees, certificates, courses, and issues relevant to transferring to Colorado four-year institutions and for career preparation.
  • Maintain current knowledge of CCA policies and procedures for completing a program of study.
  • Utilize and keep current with available reports, tracking, assessment, and communication technologies (specifically Banner, EAB Navigate, Degree Works, and in some cases Recruit) to implement proactive advising strategies.
  • Participate in all recruitment and retention trainings to become and remain skilled in intentional proactive interventions with academic, career, and transfer advising.
  • Participate in new student orientation, beat the rush, high school visits and other events that promote the college and support student success as assigned, including evening and weekend programming/events, as needed.
  • Create and lead programming around student momentum (study skills, time management, scholarship support)
Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and mentor academic advisors.
  • Create health dashboards for academic advising team.
  • Work with academic advisors and transfer success coordinator to identify students that will transfer and/or graduate through credit attainment.
  • Prepare reports for Vice President of Enrollment Management, Director, as needed or requested.
  • Work with the CRM manager to create communication plans for students.
  • Act as a liaison between student success entities.
  • Prepare weekly KPI progress report for academic advising team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or related field
  • Two years experiences in advising, coaching, counseling, or similar experiences
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
  • Experience supervising professional staff members
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • A student-centered focus, experience with student development, and the ability to view students from an asset-mindset
  • Commitment to continuous quality improvement, ongoing professional development, and a resilience for a dynamic changing work environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s degree in education, social work, or related field
  • Bilingual
  • Three years in enrollment management
  • Experience in student affairs at a community college
  • Experience working with students in a community college setting
  • Experience with Banner and EAB Navigate TES, and Microsoft Office Suite.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Salary Range: Anticipated salary range is $60,976.58- $62,487.00 annually. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
