Job summary

Swaybox Studios is seeking an experienced Lead 3D Tracking / Matchmove Artist to guide the artistic and technical execution of our Tracking department while remaining hands-on throughout production. You will mentor artists and collaborate with the VFX Supervisor, Production, and Technical Directors to ensure successful delivery.

This on-site role in New Orleans requires leadership, camera solving expertise, and proficiency with 3DEqualizer, Maya, Nuke, and KeenTools, coordinating with in-house

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Matchmove, Tracking, or Layout Artist in feature film or high-end VFX productions.
• Demonstrated experience leading artists and coordinating across in-house and remote teams.
• Expert understanding of matchmoving principles, including camera solving, lens distortion, focal lengths, rolling shutter, parallax, film back calculations, and real-world camera behavior.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Tracking / Matchmove department by providing artistic and technical direction, mentoring artists, reviewing work, and maintaining the department's quality standards.
• Coordinate with in-house and outsourced teams to ensure consistency in quality and delivery.
• Review deliveries with Production to meet milestones and deadlines and provide actionable feedback.
• Perform complex 3D camera, object, and facial tracking using live-action plates with various gear.
• Establish and maintain tracking best practices across the department for consistency and efficiency.
• Deliver production-ready camera solves, object tracks, rotomation, STMaps, and related tracking deliverables.
• Create accurate rotomation of CG rigs to match performer movement when required.
• Collaborate with VFX Supervisor, TDs, and Production to prioritize work and manage risks.
• Maintain documentation, workflows, and onboarding materials to support team quality.
