Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan Inc. in Bagdad, Arizona, is seeking a leaching operator to support the world’s first commercial-scale concentrate leach facility.

You will perform leaching duties, operate piping and field equipment, and participate in maintenance tasks to keep operations safe and efficient. Ideal candidates have at least six months of trade experience, a high school diploma or GED, and the ability to work in a potentially stressful environment.

  • Completed academic and practical competencies as required.
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.

  • Perform duties related to the leaching process and leach field construction.
  • Operate pipe fusion equipment and load/unload pipe and materials.
  • Operate mobile equipment and perform area housekeeping and basic maintenance.
  • Maintain safety and follow procedures in a mine/manufacturing environment.

Description

Performs duties related to the leaching process and leach field construction.

  • Performs pipe fusions using fusing machine
  • Responsible for having knowledge of plant nomenclature to include sumps, pumps, and leaching areas
  • Responsible for having knowledge of various evaporative spray heads and drip systems and may assist with and perform the proper placement of these on leach fields
  • Perform loading, delivering, and unloading pipe and materials
  • Operate mobile equipment such as loaders, forklifts, boom trucks, and light duty vehicles and UTV (Utility terrain vehicle)
  • Perform area housekeeping
  • Perform maintenance activities
  • Perform other duties as required
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Six (6) months of experience in the trade
  • Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required aptitude. The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills while also passing a written assessment where required. This exam is based on skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safety.

Preferred

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • This is a Safety sensitive role
  • Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, and work on elevated platforms
  • Occasionally may be required to lift up to fifty (50) pounds during the course of the work day
  • May be required to work a non-standard schedule which may include shift work (other than day shift) in a 24/7/365 operation
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
  • Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol-free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as allowed by applicable state laws

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $24.00 - $32.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors.
