About the Job

CenterPoint Energy is looking for a LCL949 Technician A – C&M to join their team, located in Shakopee, Minnesota.

Essential Functions:

1. Performs quality construction and maintenance on gas distribution systems and related functions.
2. Safely operates and maintains various types of construction equipment, minimizing downtime and maintaining high customer satisfaction.
3. Welds and performs layout work required for the installation and repair of gas distribution systems and related equipment.
4. Assembles, installs, repairs, tests, and maintains the gas distribution system and related equipment, including gas meters and regulators, to ensure safe, continuous service to customers.
5. Responds to emergency situations to maintain public and personal safety.
6. Operates equipment/tools used in the protection, repair, replacement, and installation of new gas mains and services, including site preparation and restoration.
7. Performs routine operator maintenance on all equipment/tools used in construction, maintenance, repair, and testing of the gas distribution system.
8. Inspects distribution system maps and drawings to determine location, gas flow patterns, pressures, and ensures components used are appropriate.
9. Follows the Operations Manual procedures and inspects crew work for compliance with company, local, state, and federal codes.
10. Completes record-keeping related to construction and maintenance operations accurately and timely.
11. Performs additional tasks such as leak surveys, line locating, foreign construction work, store-keeping, meter reading, chart changing, equipment transportation, and fleet and facilities maintenance.
12. Participates in external and internal training to increase knowledge and certifications.
13. Advises and assists other employees on technical, safety, and procedural matters.
14. Maintains professional relationships with internal and external customers.
15. Performs welding on gas distribution systems, including preparation and layout work.
16. Uses flame cutting torches and approved power tools for metal cutting, beveling, and trimming.
17. Performs welded repairs on vehicles and equipment to extend lifespan or modify as needed.

Education Requirements:

Successful completion of a certification program at an accredited institution in natural/propane gas distribution, installation, and repair, or equivalent education and experience providing similar technical skills.

Experience:

Minimum of one year’s experience in installation and repair of services and mains, with demonstrated knowledge and operation of excavation equipment such as trenchers, tractors, and backhoes. Must have been a Technician “B” for at least six months.
