Job summary

Blackjack Horticulture is a Birmingham-based landscape contractor seeking a Lawn Care Specialist to apply fertilizers, pesticides, and other turf treatments on residential and commercial properties. You’ll diagnose lawn health issues and implement treatment plans to protect and improve turf.

The role requires 2+ years of lawn care experience, a valid pesticide applicator license preferred, a clean driving record, and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of lawn care experience required.
• Pesticide Applicator License/Certification preferred.
• Knowledge of turf, weed, and pest identification is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Apply fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and other chemical treatments to lawns and landscape beds.
• Identify weeds, pests, diseases, and turf/plant health issues; recommend treatment.
• Calibrate and operate application equipment (spreaders, sprayers) safely.
• Follow label instructions and state/federal regulations for chemical application.
• Maintain accurate application records (product, rate, location).
• Communicate treatment plans and lawn/plant health with clients.
• Maintain and care for equipment and vehicles.
• Report property or safety concerns to supervisor.
• Follow all safety protocols, including PPE usage.

We're looking for a detail-oriented, knowledgeable Lawn Care Specialist to help our clients achieve healthy, beautiful lawns through expert turf and plant health care.

About the Role

As a Lawn Care Specialist, you'll be responsible for applying fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and other turf and ornamental treatments on residential and commercial properties. You'll diagnose lawn and plant health issues, apply the right treatment plan, and help protect and grow Blackjack's reputation for quality care.

What You’ll Do

• Apply fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and other chemical treatments to lawns and landscape beds
• Identify weeds, pests, diseases, and other turf/plant health issues, and recommend appropriate treatment
• Calibrate and operate application equipment (spreaders, sprayers, etc.) accurately and safely
• Follow all label instructions and state/federal regulations for chemical application
• Maintain accurate application records, including product, rate, and location applied
• Communicate professionally with clients regarding treatment plans and lawn/plant health
• Maintain and care for application equipment and vehicles
• Report any property or safety concerns to your supervisor
• Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE

What We’re Looking For

• 2+ years of experience in lawn care required
• Valid Pesticide Applicator License/Certification preferred
• Knowledge of common turf, weed, and pest identification a plus
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise application instructions
• Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
