Job Description: Lawn and Ornamental Technician

SSC is hiring immediately for a full-time Lawn and Ornamental Technician position located at TAMU, 600 Agronomy Road, College Station, TX 77843. Online applications are accepted only.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm. More details will be provided during the interview.

Requirements: Driver's license required; TDA License preferred but not necessary. Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Pay Range: $13.00 to $22.00 per hour.

Job Summary

This position focuses on managing landscape pests, including weeds, insects, diseases, and other disorders. The applicator must be skilled in application methodology, calibration, timing, and identification of pests and disorders. Coordination with the IPM Coordinator is essential to ensure safety and quality compliance with OSHA, ANSI, EPA, and other relevant agencies.

Responsibilities

• Perform all work safely for employees and the public.
• Maintain effective communication with the IPM Coordinator and Grounds Department staff.
• Follow schedules and protocols for landscape management and pesticide applications.
• Maintain records of all work and pesticide applications.
• Implement quality standards and conduct follow-up inspections.
• Perform light maintenance and repair of equipment.
• Stay informed about current practices, regulations, and licensing requirements.
• Attend training to maintain applicable licenses.
• Adhere to department policies, procedures, and ethics.
• Assist in emergency responses to weather events or disasters.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the IPM Coordinator.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Ornamental Horticulture preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent with four years of grounds management experience, including pesticide handling. Pesticide license in turf or ornamentals or the ability to obtain one within a month of hire.

Working Conditions

• Extensive walking and equipment operation.
• Exposure to weather, pesticides, fertilizers, and pollen.
• Physical labor constitutes 90% of the work, with 10% for training and miscellaneous tasks.
