Duties and Responsibilities

Loyola University Chicago School of Law is a student-focused law school inspired by the Jesuit tradition of academic excellence, intellectual openness, and service to others. The Office of Academic Success and Bar Passage promotes the academic success of JD students in both the full-time and Weekend JD programs from matriculation, throughout law school, and as they prepare to enter the legal profession through student-centered advising and programming aimed at maximizing student achievement and bar passage outcomes. This includes academic advising, programming, and support for students during pre-orientation, orientation, throughout law school, and bar preparation.

The Assistant Director of Academic Success and Bar Passage reports to the Assistant Dean for Academic Success and Bar Passage. This position collaborates with the Assistant Dean and another Assistant Director to advance law school priorities, maximize outcomes, and manage the day-to-day operations of Loyola Law’s Academic Success and Bar Passage program.

Primary Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
  • Academic Success and Advising: Coordinate and collaborate with doctrinal faculty to identify JD students who may be in need of academic support with academic and exam taking skills; Partner with the Student Services team in advising, accommodations, and student programming; Serve as a primary advisor to JD students; Counsel students to improve academic and exam skills; Develop and deliver academic skills curriculum and workshops; Lead/teach academic workshops; Research best practices; Assist with the Academic Enhancement Program; Guest lecture in relevant courses; Collaborate on student programming; Serve on committees; and perform other duties.
  • Bar Passage: Act as a point of contact for bar review vendors; Assist with bar-related programming and counseling; Establish relationships with bar examiners; Develop knowledge on bar exam and application process; Assist with bar prep programs and data collection; Implement strategies to increase bar passage; Track graduate progress; Serve on committees; and other related duties.
  • Other: Support the Academic Tutoring Program; Participate in professional development; Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

Juris Doctor Degree from an ABA-accredited law school; successful passage of a Bar Exam; licensed in any state for at least 2-3 years; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary Range

$70,000 - $80,000 annually.
