Job summary

Manning Kass is seeking a Law and Motion / Appellate attorney based in California with at least 2 years of experience to join our Law and Motion and Appeals Team.

You will draft a wide range of motions, assist with trial and appellate work, and participate in research and strategy discussions as part of a collaborative team. The role supports firm-wide litigation across practice areas.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree required.
• Active membership in California Bar in good standing.
• Law review or significant legal writing experience is a plus.
• Judicial Clerkship or Externship is a plus.
• Prior criminal defense experience is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Draft pretrial motions and oppositions, including pleading-related motions, discovery motions, and dispositive motions.
• Draft trial motions and assist with preparing trial documents, including motions in limine, trial briefs, pocket briefs, and jury instructions and verdicts.
• Draft post-trial motions, including motions for new trial and motions for attorney's fees.
• Handle appellate cases and conduct appellate arguments, learning from experienced appellate practitioners.
• Conduct legal research and provide recommendations to clients and litigation attorneys on complex issues.
• Analyze and assess litigation and appellate strategies.

Education

Juris Doctor (J.D.)

Active California Bar membership

Law review or significant legal writing experience

Judicial Clerkship or Externship

Prior criminal defense experience a plus
