Job description

Provide general library support and circulation desk duties. Duties include, but are not limited to, circulation of materials, record mail, handle funds received, filing loose-leaf releases and pocket parts, book binding, provide patron assistance, answering phones, and shelving all materials. Individuals work 2-3 days (6.75 hrs/day) per week.

Responsibilities:
  • Operate online circulation and serials system.
  • Locate requested material.
  • Check books in and out.
  • Receive and credit overdue book fines.
  • Collect and shelve all materials.
  • Check in and sort all incoming advance sheets, updates, supplements, periodicals, newspapers, invoices, and other office mail.
  • File loose-leaf releases, pocket parts, supplements, and revisions.
  • Locate and correct any missing or misfiled pages.
  • Contact publishers to order missing pages, supplements and issues.
  • Enter all money and checks received in the cash register.
  • Fiscal duties as necessary in accordance with accounting best practices.
  • Assist patrons in the use of the computers and copiers.
  • Prepare and bind cases published in periodicals and the county law journals/reporters advance sheets.
  • Process and issue new library memberships.
  • Assist with processing annual library membership renewals.
  • Answer telephone inquiries and direct calls to appropriate individual.
  • Replace toner and paper in the printers and copiers.
  • Maintain general orderly appearance of the library.
  • Perform related tasks as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
  • High School diploma/GED.
  • Library Science degree desirable.
  • Must be accurate, detail oriented and well organized.
  • Excellent communication skills, strong service orientation and the ability to work with a variety of library users.
  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment.
  • Proficient with computer technology.
  • Familiarity with legal terminology and legal databases (WestLaw/Lexis) desirable.
