Job summary

The Public Safety Program Specialist 1 role supports the NY Division of Criminal Justice Services by researching, developing, and implementing in-service training for police and peace officers, based in Albany.

The position involves direct instruction, technical assistance to agencies, program evaluation, compliance monitoring, and about 25% travel, reporting to a senior Public Safety Program Specialist.

Qualifications

• Six years of qualifying experience as a law enforcement officer, trainer, or public safety program administrator in a local, state, or federal agency.
• Experience in research, development, and implementation of training programs in law enforcement, fire service, emergency management, or related discipline.
• Current or prior experience as a sworn law enforcement officer in New York State with substantial traffic enforcement and impaired-driving enforcement experience.
• Experience administering and instructing Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs).
• Working knowledge of New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law provisions related to impaired driving.
• Experience developing law enforcement training curricula and evaluating instructors.

Responsibilities

• Assist in research, development, and implementation of in-service training programs for police and peace officers.
• Direct instruction of law enforcement training programs.
• Provide technical assistance to agencies.
• Conduct program evaluation and compliance monitoring.
• Travel approximately 25% as required.
