The Maryland State Police, Department of Maryland State Police, Motor Vehicle Division, Easton, MD, seeks a Police Pursuit Vehicle Specialist responsible for repair and maintenance of MSP pursuit vehicles and ensuring safe operation in all conditions. This role involves diagnosing mechanical and electrical systems, replacing engines and brakes, road testing, and proper paperwork.

Requires at least an eighth grade education and three years of automotive repair experience; substitutions may apply

Competenze

• Completion of the eighth grade.
• Three years of experience servicing, maintaining and repairing motor vehicles or equipment, one year of which must include responsibility for performing major automotive repair work.
• Graduation from an accredited vocational/technical high school with a major in automotive mechanics may substitute for up to three years of the required experience.
• Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Mechanic classifications or Automotive Maintenance Technician for the required experience.

Mansioni

• Replace or repair components on MSP vehicles and schedule preventive maintenance.
• Replace engine assemblies and rear differential assemblies including axles, bearings and gears.
• Replace engine tune‑up components such as spark plugs, ignition wires, and sensors.
• Diagnose and repair braking systems, including pads, calipers, rotors and master cylinders.
• Repair air conditioning components and perform leak tests after charging with refrigerant.
• Diagnose and repair electrical/mechanical malfunctions across vehicle systems.
• Install or repair police electrical equipment like emergency lights and sirens.
• Road test vehicles to ensure safe operating condition.
• Prepare Motor Vehicle Repair Orders and attach receipts to work orders.
• Enter inventory and log operation numbers; assist supervisor when needed.
