Job summary

Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority Police Department seeks NC-certified law enforcement professionals to join a team dedicated to keeping the airport community safe and resilient. The role focuses on high standards of integrity, professionalism, and public service within the airport environment.

Responsibilities include patrolling the campus, enforcing laws, coordinating with fire-rescue and EMS, and addressing incidents with registries and reporting.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalency required.
  • Completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Training Course (BLET) required.
  • Valid NC Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs law enforcement duties to ensure airport security in Airfield Operations Area, remote parking lots and extended jurisdictions of airport property.
  • Patrols airport campus in vehicles or on foot; checks doors and windows and inspects security doors, gates, and other areas.
  • Responds to calls for assistance, complaints, suspicious activity, disputes and loud and disruptive behavior.
  • Responds to TSA screening staff and determines whether to detain or charge suspicious persons; prepares non-transferrable item reports.
  • Investigates traffic accidents, issues traffic citations, and directs traffic; participates in emergency operation activities.
  • Works with RDU Airport Fire-Rescue and EMS to provide medical care or crowd control services; maintains chain of custody for body removal if needed.

Compensation

Maximum – Based on experience

Minimum - $25.69

Sign-on bonus available based on years of experience.

  • 1 to 3 years of experience = $1,000
  • 3 to 5 years of experience = $2,500
  • 5 to 7 years of experience = $5,000
  • 7 to 10 years of experience = $7,500
  • 10+ years of experience = $10,000
What You’ll Do
  • Performs law enforcement duties to ensure airport security in Airfield Operations Area, remote parking lots and extended jurisdictions of airport property.
  • Patrols airports campus in vehicles or on foot. Checks doors and windows and inspects security doors, gates, and other areas.
  • Responds to calls for assistance, complaints, suspicious activity, disputes and loud and disruptive behavior.
  • Responds to TSA screening staff and makes determinations whether to detain or charge suspicious persons. Prepares non-transferrable item reports.
  • Investigates traffic accidents, issues traffic citations, and directs traffic. Participates in emergency operation activities. Operates radar equipment to apprehend speeders and slow down traffic. Apprehends and processes criminal suspects.
  • Works with RDU Airport Fire-Rescue and Emergency Medical Technicians to provide medical care or crowd control services to sick or injured patients. Provides a chain of custody if a body needs to be removed from RDU Airport.
What You Need
Education:

Required: High School diploma or equivalency

Experience:

Required: Completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Training Course (BLET)

Preferred: 1 or more years of experience in as a sworn Law Enforcement Officer

Licenses or Certifications:

Required: Valid NC Driver’s License

Ride-Along Program

The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority Law Enforcement Department offers a Ride-Along Program to its applicants. This program allows potential candidates to accompany patrol officers while on duty. The program is an effort to provide a broad scope of police work done at the Raleigh-Durham Airport. The ride-along is for four hours. The RDU Police Officer will share a high-level overview of the department and answer any job‑related questions.
