Position Overview
Under the direction of a Supervisory Paralegal or Project Supervisor, the Law Clerk will assist attorneys throughout all phases of litigation. Responsibilities include legal research, drafting legal documents, reviewing electronic evidence, and preparing accurate, properly formatted court filings. The ideal candidate has strong analytical and writing skills and can deliver high-quality work under demanding deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research involving applicable statutes, regulations, and case law on matters ranging from simple to moderately complex.
- Analyze complex fact patterns and identify relevant legal issues.
- Assist in drafting motions, briefs, memoranda of law, discovery requests and responses, and legal correspondence.
- Review documents for relevance, responsiveness, and privilege.
- Support attorneys throughout discovery, trial preparation, and other phases of litigation.
- Prepare tables of contents and tables of authorities.
- Verify legal citations for accuracy and compliance with Bluebook standards.
- Use electronic discovery and document management tools to organize, search, and review case materials.
Required Qualifications
- Meet one of the following education or experience requirements:
- A law degree.
- Current enrollment in an ABA-accredited law school, with at least one year of study completed.
- Six years of legal training or experience as a substitute for the education requirement.
- Sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
- Thorough knowledge of Lexis and Westlaw.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Hands-on familiarity with electronically stored information (ESI) tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Familiarity with databases, document review and file management systems, spreadsheets, and imaging applications.
- Ability to maintain accuracy and consistently deliver high-quality work under pressure.
- U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain the required Public Trust clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience reviewing documents, particularly privilege review and second-level responsiveness checks.
- Experience drafting discovery requests, responses, and legal correspondence.
- Strong knowledge of Bluebook citation standards and experience cite-checking legal documents.
- Experience preparing tables of contents and tables of authorities.
- Familiarity with Relativity.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and legal writing skills.
