Law Clerk

The Law Clerk will support the Health and Human Services (HHS), Office for Civil Rights (OCR), by providing mission support to OCR regional offices to ensure compliance with HIPAA Rules and applicable federal civil rights, conscience, and religious freedom regulations. This position is 100% remote.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to obtain and maintain access to classified information at the Public Trust level.
  • Knowledge of nondiscrimination, conscience regulations, HIPAA Rules, court decisions, and agency case law related to investigation, enforcement, and compliance.
  • Case management experience involving clinical knowledge, interpersonal skills, and organizational abilities.
  • Experience handling high-volume caseloads.
  • Proficiency in English grammar, punctuation, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams, managing multiple projects and priorities.
  • Discretion handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes evaluating complaints for violations, responding to correspondence, drafting investigation documents, conducting interviews, reviewing policies and records, and applying relevant regulations and case law.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum of a law degree (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school or a Master’s degree from an accredited university.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Primarily office-based; requires sitting, speaking, hearing, occasional standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Accommodations available for disabilities.
