Job description

AGS is looking for a Laundry Worker to work in Florence, AZ. The Laundry Worker works under the supervision of the Laundry Lead. The Laundry Worker acts independently or assists in the performance of all duties necessary to keep the facility laundry in full operation. The Laundry Worker also ensures laundry operations comply with applicable requirements in accordance with Performance Based National Detention Standards, American Correctional Association standards and safety regulations. Responsibilities

  • Maintains adequate stock of clothing, towels, under garments and bedding supplies.
  • Monitors safety procedures of equipment and working area.
  • Operates one or more industrial washing machines to wash linens, garments, towels, and other articles.
  • Operates valves, switches, and levers to start and stop the washing machines.
  • Controls the amount and temperature of water for the soaping and rinsing of each batch.
  • Loads and unloads the washer and drying machines.
  • Operates switches, and levers to start and stop the drying machines.
  • Controls the time and temperature of each drying machine according to cloth material.
  • Folding and sorting clean clothing and linens and other articles according to requirements.
  • Ensures proper distribution in accordance with the facility laundry exchange schedule.
  • Work is completed in a priority established by the Laundry Lead or facility need.All work will be completed with a high degree of professionalism, quality, and craftsmanship.
  • Must maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area by conducting daily inspections of work equipment and the work area.
  • Must immediately report to the Laundry Lead or shift supervisor on duty any mechanical failures, unsafe work conditions, accidents and/or injuries.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Laundry Lead or PMO.

Qualifications

  • Experience preferred in large scale laundry.
  • Must be able to operate industrial laundry washing machines and dryers.
  • Must be able to follow Standard Codes of Conduct pertaining to interaction with staff and detainees.
  • Work areas will include laundry room and detention areas. Areas may be hot and humid. Laundry may be exposed to hot equipment and wet floors.May be exposed to industrial chemicals and solvents that are used in the laundry area.Frequently near mechanically active equipment.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be able to pass extensive background investigation and drug testing. Random drug testing will be performed.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.

Special Skills:

  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to interpret standards and policies.
  • Computer skills including proficiency in various Microsoft Office Suite programs such as Word, Excel.
  • Organizational skills.

Physical Capabilities:

This position requires the candidate to pass a pre-employment physical, maintain physical fitness standards and be willing and capable of the following physical requirements:

  • Ability to walk through all areas of the facility for tours of duty in varied and sometimes extreme weather conditions.
