Job description

The Laundry Worker is responsible for providing residents with clean and sanitary clothing.
This job requires a criminal background check.

Responsibilities:
  • Sort personal clothing and load into 65 to 200 lb. washers using established formulas for operating the machines.
  • Deliver various laundry items (e.g., laundry bags, blankets, etc.) to nursing floors daily.
  • Unload washers, sort laundry, load dryers, and assist in other laundry duties, if necessary.
  • Maintain laundry areas (mopping, washing and disinfecting soiled laundry areas).
  • Assist in unloading laundry supplies and new linens, transport and stock items.
  • Knowledgeable in safety procedures.
  • Attend scheduled in-service programs, as required.
  • Transport clean linen carts to the nursing units on all floors.
  • Return empty linen carts to the laundry to be counted and restocked at various times of the day.
  • Fold linen and fill linen carts.
  • Ensure that all carts are filled neatly and orderly.
  • Fill emergency linen carts on each floor with extra linen.
  • Neatly hang and fold residents’ clothing.
  • Separate clothing by floors then room numbers for distribution to residents.
  • Mark all residents’ clothing with proper identification.
  • Report linen needs to supervisors.
  • Perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as required.
Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Good communication skills.
  • Manual dexterity.
  • Ability to carry tasks to completion.
  • Ability to use common sense understanding to carry out written or verbal instructions.
  • Easily adapts to changes in the work environment.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
  • One or more years of experience in laundry work.
  • Ability to work independently and proceed with objectives.
  • Exhibits sound and accurate judgement.
  • Ability to follow office protocol.

Relevant background checks, clearances, physicals, drug tests, and any other assessments or evaluations will be conducted after an offer of employment is given per County policy.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk; reach above shoulders and work with arms above shoulder height; bend at the waist or work bent at the waist; climb stairs; twist or rotate at the waist; push or pull heavy laundry carts (up to 200 pounds); lift and carry items; operate laundry equipment; deal with an uncommon level of noise; and talk or hear. Occasionally, you will need to kneel, stoop, crouch or squat, and taste or smell. Employee will rarely be able to sit.

Work Environment:
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
  • Exposure to excessive heat and humidity during summer months.
  • High levels of noise due to equipment and fans.
