JOB TITLE: Laundry Worker

JOB TYPE: Part time

WAGE: $17.50 per hour

LOCATION: 435 University Ave., Saint Paul, MN

PHYSICAL SETTING: Emergency Shelter/Transitional Housing Environment

SCHEDULE: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday

Position Summary

We seek a Laundry Worker, who, under regular supervision, is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the laundry room at the Men’s Campus. Performs routine cleaning of bed linens, donated clothing items, and blankets for the men’s and women’s residences. This position also involves general maintenance of the commercial laundry equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under direct supervision, carries out established processes and procedures in alignment with UGMTC’s mission, vision and policies.
  • Typical duties include sorting, loading and unloading machines; shaking, ironing, folding, storing and securing supplies and equipment; disposing of unusable items and reporting the need for replacement; cleaning the laundry area and equipment.
  • Ability to operate washing machines, dryers, extractors and steamers.
  • Performs light cleaning of laundry equipment, including removal of lint from dryer traps.
  • Works with the Bethel Hotel and Discipleship, as needed.
  • Represents the Christian values and ethics of UGMTC when interacting with students, staff and vendors.
  • Participates in UGMTC sponsored spiritual enrichment activities, including staff prayer and devotions.
  • At any time, with or without notice, performs other duties and activities as assigned.


MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • No education required.
  • 2 years' experience in a large scale or commercial laundry setting preferred.
  • Experience in a commercial setting preferred.

  • Ability to work calmly and remain professional in a sometimes-stressful environment.
  • Good judgment, self-control and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow safety procedures.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies, stages of recovery and a culturally diverse community.


WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

  • Work is performed in an emergency shelter / transitional housing environment.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Work requires pushing, pulling, reaching, crouching, stooping, walking, twisting, carrying, and other physical activities.
  • Work involves physical effort encountered in normal, everyday office activities.
  • Work is performed in an environment that may cause encounters with men in various states of dress.
