Job summary

HMR Veterans Services in Walterboro, SC is seeking a dedicated Laundry Staff member to support our facility in providing clean, safe living environments for residents who have served their country.

You will perform daily laundry tasks, coordinate with nursing staff, maintain equipment and linen supplies, uphold privacy and dignity of residents, and ensure timely delivery of laundered items while following all safety and sanitation standards. Reliable attendance and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Must read, write, speak and understand the English language.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth and safety throughout the facility.
  • Coordinate daily laundry services with nursing staff when performing routine assignments.
  • Ensure areas are clean, safe and sanitary, and equipment is cleaned and stored properly.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident information and respect residents' rights.
  • Sort, wash, press, fold and distribute clean laundry and linens daily.
  • Report occupational exposures and errors following facility procedures.

What You'll Do

As a Laundry Staff, you will assist in the day-to-day activities of the Laundry Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards governing the facility to assure that it is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner. Responsibilities include:

  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility.
  • Coordinate daily laundry services with nursing service when performing routine laundry assignments in resident living areas.
  • Ensure that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.
  • Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the facility's policies and procedures governing accidents and incidents.
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of the shift.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident information.
  • Knock before entering a resident's room.
  • Ensure that the residents' personal and property rights are maintained by assigned personnel.
  • Ensure that refuse is disposed of daily and in accordance with established sanitation procedures.
  • Ensure that an adequate supply of laundry supplies is maintained to perform daily tasks; keep supervisor informed of supply need.
  • Ensure that an adequate supply of clean linen is maintained in linen closets.
  • Clean work and supply carts, equipment, etc., as necessary.
  • Perform day-to-day laundry functions as assigned.
  • Collect, sort, and weigh soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc., and place in appropriate containers or assigned areas.
  • Sort soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc. and separate those items that require special stain removal/treatment.
  • Sort, count, and wash soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc., in accordance with established procedures.
  • Press/iron garments, as necessary.
  • Fold, count, stack, hang, and distribute clean laundry, linen, garments, etc. to residents daily and/or as instructed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident information.
  • Knock before entering a resident's room.
  • Honor the residents personal and property rights.
  • Report complaints of missing property to supervisor.
  • Turn in all found articles to supervisor.
  • Performs other related assignments as required.

Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, to follow instructions, and to accept constructive criticism.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
