Job summary

Job description

SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director, Environmental and Textile Services, is responsible for the planning, organizing and ensuring that optimum housekeeping, laundry and linen services are provided to user departments at assigned Academic Medical Center Sites. Functions independently within broad scope of department policies and procedures. RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • In conjunction with the Director and the strategic plan for the Academic Medical Center, facilitates the effective utilization of resources, including people, financial and material by developing goals and objectives for the Environmental Services, Laundry and Linen areas.
  • Serves as a role model to staff by continuously demonstrating the corporate values and principles, creating and maintaining effective, positive customer service relationships by identifying customers and their needs, ensuring that needs are met, responding appropriately to difficult interactions, and educating all staff on the importance of quality customer service.
  • Effectively and continually communicates with staff, management and customer to facilitate the flow of information necessary to the ownership of their careers and success by providing staff with positive and action oriented feedback to maximize the utilization and potential of the organization’s human resources.
  • Assists the Director of Environmental Services in the establishment and maintenance of work standards of cleanliness and sanitation and the production and distribution of clean textile products.
  • Assists with the writing and development of new procedures involving the use of new equipment and rewrites existing procedures to bring them up to date.
  • Works with site ESD, Laundry and Linen supervisors to assist with the evaluating of performance of all subordinates, counseling and other employee relation matters.
  • Resolves unusual situations or those passed on by supervisors, directly.
  • Schedules personnel and individual work assignments.
  • Completes performance appraisals on subordinates supervisors and submits to the Director for review.
  • Conducts meetings with supervisor to exchange ideas, and pass on the job related information and to provide interpretation of policies and procedures.
  • Interviews and selects non-supervisor personnel in conjunction with the supervisor and the Director.
  • Provides recommendations for selection of supervisory personnel.
  • Consults with vendor representatives.
  • Oversees testing and evaluation of new products, equipment and services, and recommends purchase to the Director.
  • Follows up with requests from other Hospital departments for ESD and Laundry services.
  • Meets regularly with the departments of the Hospital to see that housekeeping functions are being carried out completely and in accordance with proper methods.
  • Updates all schematics and square footage measurements due to renovations and new construction.
  • Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established policies and procedures of the department and Brown University Health Risk Control Policy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associates Degree in Institutional Management or the field of business or health care administration top provide knowledge of management, record keeping, preparation of reports, etc. or its equivalent.
  • Must have a good driving record in order to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Rhode Island as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and in accordance with Brown University Health's Fleet Risk Control Policy.
  • Supervisory and managerial abilities necessary to direct the activities of service (including non-English speaking and supervisory personnel).
  • Interpersonal abilities to effectively interact with all levels of Hospital personnel.
  • Knowledge of sanitation and other procedures and techniques necessary to assist in the development and standards, evaluation of products and so forth.
  • Requires at least four years of progressively more responsible housekeeping experience including at least two years in a supervisory capacity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Considerable walking and standing.
  • Occasional exposure to adverse conditions while inspecting and directly supervising personnel.

Pay Range: $78,416.00-$129,355.20
