POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Director of Housekeeping, the Laundry Aide is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing all resident and facility linens. The person holding this position is delegated the responsibility for carrying out the assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with current existing federal and state regulations and established company policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
A. Role Responsibilities – Job Knowledge/Duties:
  • 1. Reports to work as scheduled. Attends all mandatory in-services by employee’s anniversary date
  • 2. Delivers soiled linens to laundry; sorts, washes, dries, folds and returns clean linens to linen closets and resident rooms.
  • 3. Cleans laundry room, sorting and soiled linen tubs.
  • 4. Demonstrates ability to adjust to changes in shift assignments to meet facility needs
  • 5. Maintaining inventory of laundry supplies and linen;
  • 6. Distributing personal clothing to residents’ rooms;
  • 7. Keeping laundry area clean and in order by dusting, sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing;
  • 8. Sorting and laundering linens; distributing clean linen to linen rooms;
  • 9. Operating, cleaning and sanitizing washer and dryer;
  • 10. Ensuring that resident’s clothing is properly identified;
  • 11. Picks up soiled laundry and delivers clean laundry and personals in a timely manner;
  • 12. Performs routine laundry activities including sorting, loading machines, folding linen and laundry, re-supply of carts and delivery of personal linen;
  • 13. Helps maintains a clean area, routinely cleans equipment and laundry area.
  • 14. Adheres to all cleaning chemical hazards as indicated on supplies
  • 15. Observes rules of sanitation at all times
  • 16. Demonstrates knowledge of and complies with the Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program when performing work functions
  • 17. Other duties as assigned by Director of Housekeeping
B. Role Responsibilities - Interpersonal Skills:
  • 1. Is aware of, and adheres to, Resident’s Bill of Rights and Confidentiality of Resident Information
  • 2. Interacts with residents and family members, co-workers, clinical and ancillary staff in a non-judgmental, supportive and calm manner
  • 3. Addresses family satisfaction issues immediately by reporting them to the supervisor in a professional manner
  • 4. Is aware of Resident Abuse Reporting Law

C. Role Responsibilities - Safety:
  • 1. Demonstrates ability to locate emergency equipment (i.e. fire extinguisher)
  • 2. Demonstrates ability to identify and respond appropriately to potential behavioral outbursts
  • 3. Uses facility equipment safely
  • 4. Recognizes, removes, an/or reports potential hazards
  • 5. Follows established safety rules/accident prevention
  • 6. Observes rules of safety at all times including complying with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) guidelines for chemical use
CI. Role Responsibilities – Infection Control:
  • 1. Demonstrates proper hand-washing techniques
  • 2. Disposes of waste properly
  • 3. Complies with departmental dress code
  • 4. Complies with all established infection control and standard precaution practices when performing laundry procedures
CII. Role Responsibilities – Resident Care/Dignity:
  • 1. Addresses residents in a respectful manner and knocks before entering residents’ rooms
  • 2. Discusses confidential resident information in appropriate areas only
  • 3. Understands and complies with all rules regarding residents’ rights
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • 1. Possess a high school diploma or sufficient knowledge and education to perform function of job
  • 2. Understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • 3. Is capable of setting work priorities and working independently in the absence of supervision
  • 4. Must meet health assessment requirements, including two-stage Mantoux skin test
  • 5. Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, and possess sufficient communication skills to perform the tasks required
  • 6. Must be capable of performing the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:

“Occasionally” equals approximately 1% to 33% of the workday, “Frequently” equals approximately 34% to 66% of the workday, and “Continuously” equals approximately 67% to 100% of the workday (Typical full-time workday is 7.5 hours).

  • 7. May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals
  • 8. May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations
