Job summary

Kaizen Lab Inc. is seeking a Laundry Aide to support the daily laundry operations within our facility in Mississippi.

The role involves performing routine laundry tasks, coordinating with nursing and activity services, and ensuring proper handling of resident laundry with attention to quality and timeliness. The ideal candidate will follow established procedures, maintain cleanliness, and participate in department meetings as needed.

JOBSUMMARY:

Theprimary purpose of the Laundry Aide position is to perform the day-to-dayactivities of the Laundry Department and as may be directed by your supervisor.

JOBDUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
AdministrativeFunctions
  • Ensurethat work/cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical.
  • Assistin coordinating daily laundry services with nursing and activity serviceswhen performing routine assignments in resident living areas.
  • Attenddepartment and staff meetings as directed.
  • Filecomplaints/grievances with your supervisor.
  • Turnin all lost and found articles to your supervisor.
  • Maintaina lost and found area in the laundry department.
LaundryServices Functions
  • Performday-to-day laundry functions as assigned.
  • Performspecific tasks according to daily work assignments.
  • Performassigned tasks according to established laundry procedures.
  • Collect,sort, count and/or weigh soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc. and placein appropriate containers or assigned areas.
  • Separateitems that require special stain removal/treatment.
  • Press/irongarments as instructed.
  • Fold,count, stack, hang, label and distribute clean laundry to residents dailyor as instructed.
  • Duringemergency conditions, assure that clean laundry, linen, garments, etc.,are distributed to designated areas as instructed.
  • Cleanfloors, including sweeping, dusting, and mopping as requested.
  • Keeplaundry area clean and sanitary.
  • Removedust, dirt, grease, etc. from equipment and/or floor surfaces asnecessary.
  • Discardwaste/trash into proper containers and reline receptacle with plasticliner.
StaffDevelopment Functions
  • Participatein department projects as directed.
  • Attendin-service programs and on-the-job training classes as directed.
  • Attendannual OSHA and CDC in-service programs for hazard communication, TBmanagement and blood borne pathogens standards.
Safetyand Sanitation Functions
  • Followestablished fire safety policies and procedures.
  • Followestablished safety precautions when performing tasks and when usingequipment and supplies.
  • Wearand/or use safety equipment and supplies when lifting or moving heavyobjects.
  • Ensurethat assigned work areas are kept in a clean and sanitary manner.
  • Keepwork areas free of hazardous objects, unnecessary equipment, supplies,etc.
  • Followproper techniques when mixing chemicals, disinfectants, and solutions usedin the work area. Always refer to MSDSs when necessary.
  • Followestablished procedures for product labeling and MSDSs.
  • Reportall hazardous conditions or equipment to your supervisor.
  • Reportany and all accidents/incidents to your supervisor during the shift inwhich they occur.
  • Ensurethat established infection control and universal precautions are followed.
  • Useappropriate personal protective clothing and equipment when handlinginfectious materials.
  • Discardsharps into designated container.
  • Followestablished hand washing procedures.
  • Disposeof refuse daily according to proper sanitation procedures.
  • Coordinateisolation procedures with nursing services.
  • Participatein in-service training prior to performing tasks that involvepotential exposure to blood, body fluids or hazardous chemicals.
Equipmentand Supply Functions
  • Ensurethat an adequate supply of laundry products is maintained to meet thedaily needs of the residents.
  • Keepsupervisor informed of supply needs.
  • Reportall broken or malfunctioning equipment to your supervisor.
  • Ensurethat equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of your shift.
ResidentRights Responsibilities
  • Maintainthe confidentially of all resident information.
  • Knockbefore entering the resident’s room.
  • Honorthe resident’s personal and property rights.
  • Reportall allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of residentproperty.
  • Informresident when it is necessary to move his/her personal possessions.
  • Reportcomplaints of missing or mislabeled property to your supervisor.
WorkingConditions
  • Worksprimarily in the laundry area as well as in all areas of the facility.
  • Movesintermittently during work hours.
  • Issubject to frequent interruptions and may need to reschedule laundryactivities.
  • Isinvolved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agency personnel,etc. under all conditions and circumstances.
  • Issubject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members,personnel and visitors.
  • Communicateswith other laundry personnel, nursing personnel and other departmentpersonnel.
  • Worksbeyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays, and in otherpositions, temporarily, when necessary.
  • Issubject to callback during emergency conditions.
  • Maybe required to work on shifts other than the one for which hired.
  • Attendsand participates in continuing education programs.
  • Issubject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc.,throughout the workday, as well as to reactions from dust, plastics,synthetics, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other potentialcontaminants.
  • Issubject to exposure to infectious waste, disease, conditions, etc.including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
  • Maybe subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
JOBREQUIREMENTS:
Education
  • Must possess a minimum, a tenth (10th) gradeeducation.
Experience
  • None required. On-the-job training provided.
Specific Requirements
  • Mustbe able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Mustpossess the ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions andaccept constructive feedback.
  • Mustpossess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, familymembers, visitors, government agency personnel, and the general public.

  • Mustbe able to follow written and oral instructions concerning the mixing ofcleaning compounds, liquids, disinfecting solutions, etc.
  • Mustbe able to distinguish between cotton, wool and synthetics.
  • Mustbe familiar with proper heat to apply to particular fabrics to prevent damage.
  • Mustnot pose a direct threat to the health and safety of other individuals in theworkplace.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
  • Mustbe able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Mustbe able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
  • Mustbe able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Mustbe able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses tofunction adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can befully met.
  • Mustfunction independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and theability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Mustmeet the general health requirement set forth by the policies of this facility,which include a medical and physical examination.
  • Mustbe able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionallyupset, and at time hostile people within the facility.
