Job description

PURPOSE

The position is responsible for sorting dirty laundry, loading and unloading washing machines and dryers, and folding linens at the center.

REPORTS TO:

Laundry Supervisor, Housekeeping Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to read and understand Standard English.
• Ability to operate standard and commercial laundry machinery.
• Ability to follow instructions effectively.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to pull and push wet laundry weighing 50–75 pounds.
• Ability to stand for 7–8 hours per day.
• Ability to stoop, kneel, and bend.
• Good vision, hearing, and communication skills to perform job duties.
• Ability to lift 30–40 pounds frequently.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Reporting to the laundry area at the scheduled time and gathering dirty laundry as instructed.
• Loading washers with dirty linens and preparing linens for the morning change.
• Keeping dirty and clean linens separate at all times.
• Checking water temperature of each washing machine to ensure it is at least 150°F.
• Cleaning lint traps as per center policy or at least once per shift.
• Checking levels of laundry detergents, softeners, and bleach according to policy.
• Maintaining cleanliness of floors, walls, and equipment.
• Removing dry clothes from dryers, folding, and storing them according to policy.
• Operating washing machines and dryers following manufacturer and center policies.
• Reporting equipment issues to the supervisor for repairs.
• Shutting down laundry equipment properly when the fire alarm sounds.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
• Following all federal, state, and center policies and procedures.
• Following safety procedures when handling chemicals.

Shift: PRN (Must be flexible)
